Literacy Volunteers, BCCC mount GED Campaign | Eastern NC Now

   Literacy Volunteers of Beaufort County recently joined with Beaufort County Community College to inform its Basic Skills students about coming changes in the General Educational Development, or GED, Program. Several changes in requirements for those seeking the GED are scheduled to go into effect in early 2014. Those students who have not completed the requirements for the GED by the end of 2013 will have to start over with their work. BCCC has planned a campaign to alert those who have taken some, but not all, of the required GED tests of these changes. A grant to Literacy Volunteers and BCCC will help fund this campaign, according to Penelope Radcliffe, GED assessment and retention specialist. Members of the Literacy Volunteers Board of Directors recently visited BCCC to present a check to Radcliffe.
