Vidant Medical Center applies for Magnet status | Eastern NC Now

    GREENVILLE     Vidant Medical Center has applied to the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) for the prestigious designation of Magnet. The Magnet designation recognizes excellence in nursing services.

    Vidant Medical Center submitted documents to the ANCC in October 2012 and has been notified that four ANCC appraisers will be visiting the medical center in May.

    Dr. Linda Hofler, senior vice president - nurse executive at Vidant Medical Center, said site visits are granted based on the documents submitted to ANCC. She said less than 7 percent of all hospitals in the United States have achieved Magnet Recognition® status.

    "Being a Magnet-designated facility is not just about nursing, but about the team of health care professionals that contribute to excellence in patient care," Hofler said. "This is exciting news for our organization."

    Magnet recognizes health care organizations for quality patient care, nursing excellence and professional practice. Consumers rely on the designation as the gold seal for high-quality care. The U.S. News and World Report uses Magnet designation as a primary competence indicator to rank and report the best medical centers across the country.

    Patients, family members, staff and interested parties who would like to provide comments are encouraged to do so. Anyone may send comments via email, fax and direct mail. All phone comments to the Magnet Program Office must be followed up in writing.

    Comments are confidential and never shared with the facility. Comments may be anonymous, but must be in writing. All comments must be received by May 4, 2013.
