    Mrs. Hattie Belle Harris McKinney, age 97, a resident of 6239 Terra Ceia Road, Pantego, NC died Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at her home.

    A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Belhaven Missionary Baptist Church officiated by Rev. David Pierce. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Fairfield. John "JR" Slade, Jason Webb, Gary Allen, Gerald Allen, Curtis Shirley and Leslie "Buddy" Daw, Jr. will serve as pallbearers. Members of the Belhaven Missionary Baptist Church Quilter's Club will serve as honorary pallbearers.

    The family will receive friends 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM Friday, April 5, 2013 at Belhaven Missionary Baptist Church and other times at the home.

    Mrs. McKinney was born in Beaufort County on February 9, 1916 daughter of the late George Hyman Harris and the late Lena Carolina Myers Harris. She was a graduate of Pantego High School and married John Ernel McKinney on October 24, 1944 who preceded her in death on January 9, 1986. Mrs. McKinney was a clerk having worked with the National Youth Association, Roxie Cafe, Johnson & McKeels, Hyde Bound SOS and retired while working at Baker IGA in Belhaven. She was a member of Belhaven Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. McKinney had a love for making quilts and looked forward to fellowship with the quilter's club at her church.

    Survivors include a daughter: Randi Sue McKinney Slade and her husband Robbie of Pantego; four step-children: Emma Gray McKinney Kirk and Doris Lee McKinney Fox both of Venice, FL., Eloise McKinney Smith of Washington and Norma Earl McKinney Hodges of Fort Mills, SC; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren and a large number of step grandchildren, step great grandchildren and step great great grandchildren. Mrs. McKinney was predeceased by a son: Joe Alyn Harris; three brothers: Jonnie F. Myers, Edgar Earl Myers and Robert Taylor Harris; two sisters: Rosa Lee Myers Silverthorne and Hilda Mae Harris; three step-daughters: Hilda Dale McKinney Reed, Mavis Christine McKinney Paul-Allen and Margariete McKinney Smith and two step-sons: John Jounior McKinney and Curtis Conway McKinney.

    In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests memorial contributions to be made to Belhaven Missionary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 400, Belhaven, NC 27810.
