casino issue backfires on RINOs as 500 turn out against in Berger's county | Eastern NC Now

Republican legislative leaders defy the grassroots

ENCNow

Out of touch NC Senate President Pro Tem Phil Berger (RINO-Rockingham) is one of the biggest boosters of allowing casinos to operate in North Carolina and he wants to put one in his home county.  The people who live there take a different view and a massive crowd of five hundred of them turned out to a county commission meeting to oppose building a casino in Rockingham County.  This is before the legislation has even passed the legislature.  The grassroots wants Berger to stick his casino bill where the sun does not shine.

Those Rockingham County voters upset about the casinos are representative of much of the GOP grassroots across the state.  So much so that gubenatorial candidate and former Congressman Mark Walker  has come out in praise of those 500 standing up against the casinos.  In doing so, he is taking a pot shot at increasingly unpopular Phil Berger.

As he has on way too many issues, Mark Robinson is AWOL on the casino issue, and many now see him in Berger's orbit.

On the local level, Beaufort County's conservative state Representative Keith Kidwell has come out against the casinos, and its liberal Republican state Senator Jim Perry, for them.  In fact, Perry, who is often a pay-for-play politician has been exposed as being heavily funded by casino interests.

I have my own issues with this plan, but Donald Trump is very pro-gaming and you're voting for him (again).

"NO TO A CASINO" Casino is bad news. More homeless on the streets. Prostitution, drug use on the streets in front of children, easier access to drugs. Only a few good reasons for No casinos! I do not want a casino in my county or North Carolina for that matter!

North Carolina does not need casinos. They bring in crime and labor unions. Phil Berger and Jim Perry are so out of touch with the Republican base, they act more like Democrats as they carry water for the liberal positions of the special interests.

Thanks, Keith, for looking out for us. I wish we had more legislators who did that. Norm Sanderson seems to always come through, too, but there are too few of you in the Republican caucus.

Phil-ith Berger is as much a swamp RINO in the state Senate as Mitch McConnell is in the US Senate, and Jim Perry is our local Mitt Romney. Since Berger wants to let men or women use whichever bathroom they want, one wonders which one Berger himself uses and whether he might be prone to wear a dress at times. FLIP THE BERGER.
