Bonnie McCoy Crisp, 92, of Washington, NC died Wednesday, April 18, 2013.

A funeral/memorial service will be held at 7:00 PM on Tuesday evening, April 23rd, at the Washington Assembly of God Church, 2029 West Fifth Street, Washington, NC. Pastors Steve Evans, Kenneth Pritchard and Robbie Hayes will be speaking. There will be a private burial on Wednesday for the immediate family. Visitation hours for friends and family to fellowship will be on Monday evening, April 22nd between 6:30-8:30 PM at the Washington Assembly of God Church.

Mr. Crisp was born on December 8, 1920 in Beaufort County, son of Joseph Aurora and Allie Vida Crisp. He always told everyone he was born on a stormy Friday evening and the midwife fed him sweet coffee with biscuit when he was two hours old. He thinks it was Luizianne. He grew up in a different time and saw the world change in many ways. He grew up "country" and served in the Army during WW II. He told stories from his time in Cairo, Egypt and other parts of the world. He knew one French sentence and it translated to "pass the salt, please." He married his sweetheart and had kids and one day found a little group of people meeting at an old empty gas station across from the hospital that was being used as a church.. and he met the Lord at that little assembly and he served the Lord the rest of his life. The last thing he said was that he wanted a closer walk with Jesus. He had a sense of humor and wasn't afraid to use it. He was always pointing people to trust the Lord for their heart and soul and he never gave up on people. He was generous to a fault. He loved to talk, fish, cook, and grow things. When he would greet you, he'd ask if you were "doing a hundred?" If you asked him how he was, he would say "I've got no complaints." His favorite movie was The Apple Dumpling Gang; he loved Red Skelton and Barney from Andy Griffith and Snuffy Smith from the comics. He loved a good story and a good laugh. He loved his family and he loved people and he loved God.

Mr. Crisp is survived by his daughter, Sandra Martin and her husband, Eddie Martin; his daughter, Bonnie Eshelman and her husband, Milton Eshelman; one son, David M. Crisp; five grandchildren, John David Eshelman and his wife, Lonna; Ashley Nicole Crisp, Angelina Smith, Amanda Smith, David Smith; two great grandchildren, Hannah Eshelman and Zachary Eshelman and his wife, Amanda. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Edna Crisp Currie.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ernestine Evans Crisp and a brother, Lonnie Crisp and a brother-in-law, Colon Currie.

Flowers are appreciated or memorial donations in the name of Bonnie M. Crisp may be directed to the Washington Assembly of God, 2029 W. 5th St., Washington, NC 27889.
