Israeli Diplomat Brutally Stabbed By ‘Foreign National’ In China On Hamas’ ‘Day Of Rage’ | Eastern NC Now

    An Israeli diplomat was stabbed in a shocking incident on Friday that was captured on video and posted to social media.

    The Israeli Foreign Ministry said in a statement, "An Israeli employee of the Israeli embassy in Beijing was attacked today."

    The man who was stabbed was reportedly in stable condition as authorities investigate the incident to determine a motive.

    "We are shocked by today's attack on an Israeli diplomat in Beijing," said U.S. Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns. "I spoke with Israel's Ambassador to China, Irit Ben-Abba, and have offered our full support to the Israeli Embassy and Israeli community in China."

    AFP geolocated the video in the Chinese capital of Beijing and determined that the incident happened about half a mile away from the embassy.

    Video of the incident shows the attacker repeatedly stabbing the man and blood on the ground.

    Chinese police located and arrested the attacker.

    The U.S. Embassy said in a statement that they did not have any motive as to why the Israeli official was stabbed.

    "An Israeli diplomat was stabbed today in the Chaoyang District of Beijing," the U.S. Embassy said. "The US Embassy does not have details on the motivation of the attacker. The US Embassy is not aware of specific threats to US citizens but recommends maintaining vigilance with regard to personal security."

    The attack in China comes after there was a stabbing attack on Friday at a school in France.

    The 20-year-old suspect was from Russia's "mainly Muslim southern Caucasus region of Chechnya" and reportedly shouted "Allahu akbar!" as he stabbed two teachers and a security guard, according to AFP.

    French President Emmanuel Macron said in a statement that the attack was the result of "barbaric Islamist terrorism."

    A teacher was killed, a security guard was critically wounded, and another teacher who was stabbed is reportedly in a less serious condition.

    "The teacher who was killed had come forward to protect others and had without doubt saved many lives," Macron added.


    POLITICO Europe reported that the suspect's name was Mohammed Mogouchkov and that he was "under police surveillance before the attack and on the police register of radicalized individuals."

    One of the suspect's brothers was arrested in 2019 "on suspicion of being involved in the planning of an attack that was thwarted and is in jail," according to a report from the Associated Press. Police arrested another armed suspect on Friday near a different school in what was being described as a potential second attack.

    The terrorist attack comes after the former leader of Hamas urged Muslims worldwide to hold a "day of rage" on Friday.
