David Ernest Grumt | Eastern NC Now

    David Ernest Grumt, age 85, a resident of Washington, NC went home to be with Jesus, Tuesday, November 14, 2023. He died at home.

    A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday November 18, 2023, at First Church of Christ located at 520 East 10th Street, Washington. The service will be officiated by Johnny Pressley.

    David was a man who loved God and his family and was quick to share the saving grace of Jesus Christ with all who would listen. He was born in Springfield, MA on July 13, 1938, son of the late Eric and Helen Gurley Grumt. David graduated from Springfield Technical High School in Springfield, MA He is survived by Brenda his wife of 46 years. He owned and operated DEGCO Enterprises in Wilbraham, MA., an RV sales and service center. He enjoyed cars of any kind, especially antique cars and was an avid fan of NASCAR racing. David was a member of Evangelical Covenant Church in Springfield, MA and attended First Church of Christ after relocating to Washington.

    Surviving children are: Penny Silvia and husband Frank of Danielson, CT, Emily Brennan and husband Chris of Denver, CO. His brother-in-law Willis McCleary of Windsor Locks, CT as well as Lynne, David, Kevin, and Diane from a previous marriage. He has three grandchildren: Corynne Silvia, Ainsley Brennan, and Luke McCleary, his almost grandson.

    In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made to First Church of Christ, Benevolent Fund, 520 East 10th Street, Washington, NC 27889.
