Curtis Ellwood “Curt” Smith | Eastern NC Now

    Mr. Curtis Ellwood "Curt" Smith, age 61, a resident of Belhaven, NC died November 17, 2023, at ECU Health Medical Center Beaufort Campus in Washington.

    A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday November 29, 2023, at the River Church in Bath officiated by Pastor Ron Bousquet. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour at the church.

    Curt was born in Pitt County on May 28, 1962, son of the late Curtis Elwood Smith, Sr., and the late Sylvia Marilyn Keech Smith. He was eager to serve his country in the U.S. Navy, so he attended Beaufort County Community College to earn his GED. Following his service in the Navy he married the former Vicky Earleen Brooks who survives. Curt was a self-employed carpenter before his retirement. He was happy while on the road riding his motorcycle.

    Surviving along with his wife, Vicky, of Pinetown are his daughters: Sylvia Smith VanderWeit and her husband Jacob of Washington and Katelynn "Katie" Smith of Pinetown. He was predeceased, along with his parents, by a daughter: Hailey Smith.

    In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made to the Curtis Smith Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 1465, Washington, NC 27889 or to the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center, Patient Assistance Fund, 1209 Brown Street, Washington, NC 27889.
