    Don Geary Winstead a resident of Washington, died Monday, January 22, 2024, at Prodigy Transitional Rehab in Tarboro.

    Mr. Winstead was born in Beaufort County on June 20, 1940. He was the son of the late Clyde Milton Winstead and Elsie Mae Alligood Winstead. He practiced interior design for over thirty years in the Charlotte, NC, Columbia, SC, and later in the Washington, NC area. He was a fellow in the International Interior Design Association and served as an officer at both local and national levels. He completed commissions in as many as 20 states and several foreign countries. His work was published in local and national design journals and won several national awards. He served on the Board of Visitors for the Foundation for Interior Design Education Research and was a charter member of Big Brothers of Charlotte. He was a former member of the Choirs of Eastminster Presbyterian Church, Columbia, SC, St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Washington, NC, Trinity Episcopal Church, Chocowinity, NC, The Palmetto Masters Singers in Columbia, SC, and Beaufort County Community Chorus. He served in the US Army and Army Reserves.

    Mr. Winstead is survived by sisters, Peggy Sue Winstead of Washington, Genevieve Wallace of Plymouth, and a brother, Kenneth Winsted of Washington State.

    Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
