Edith Faye Sawyer Gibbs | Eastern NC Now

    Mrs. Edith Faye Sawyer Gibbs, age 81, a resident of Washington, NC died Monday February 19, 2024, at her home.

    A private memorial service will be held for family members later.

    Mrs. Gibbs was born in Hyde County on July 7, 1942, daughter of the late Richard Bernard Sawyer and the late Alice Virginia Sawyer Gibbs. She attended high school in Swan Quarter. On Feb 10, 1977, she married David I. Gibbs who survives. She worked as a purchasing agent at Britthaven of Washington. She later discontinued her work at Britthaven to become a homemaker. Her greatest joy was cooking for family and friends, and she also loved lighthouses.

    Surviving along with her husband, David, of the home are her children: Vickie Williams and Lisa Carawan both of Washington; grandchildren: Jessica Leigh Modlin, Brett Carawan, Jarett Pittman, Samantha Decker, Amanda Decker, Brian Gibbs, Danielle Carawan, John Williams, Brittany Gibbs, and Joseph Gibbs; twenty-two great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

    Mrs. Gibbs was predeceased, along with her parents, by sons: Jeffery Warren Carawan and Jeff Carawan; and a sister: Dorothy Sawyer Equils.

    In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks for memorial contributions be made to Marion Shepard Cancer Center, 1209 Brown Street, Washington, NC 27889.
