Christian McGhee, 16, was suspended from Central Davidson High School in Lexington, NC for using the term "illegal alien" in English class. He inquired of the teacher if the term "alien" in an exercise was used in the sense of a space alien or an illegal alien. His parents failed to get relief from this absurd suspension through the school system, so now they have filed suit against the school board, represented by a conservative legal foundation.
The term "illegal alien" is the correct legal term used in federal law, the United States Code, for those people who are in our country illegally. Since when do students get suspended for using a proper legal term right out of federal law? These arrogant school administrators NEED to be sued over this goosestepping over our precious freedom of speech. Good thing for free speech and democracy that they are being sued.

Great to see this. We need more lawsuits when school authorities get out of line like this.

If anything should be punished it should be anyone who calls an illegal alien an "immigrant". This is highly insulting to real immigrants who came here the right way and is very distressing to them. It is also a misuse of the term "immigrant" which under the definitions in federal immigration law ONLY applies to those who came here the right way. An illegal alien should be called what he is, an "illegal alien".

I could easily see this happen in Beaufort County Schools. Start with the fact that some of the teachers (what percent I could only guess) are flaming liberals. Add to that a liberal education establishment superintendant and central office. The final problem is that a majority of the school board, including all of those running this year, are seat warmers who are rubber stamps for the liberal superintendant.
I could even name one high school English teacher who would be a prime suspect to start something like this rolling. Parents in all school board races need to go to the polls and throw the rascals out this November. Davidson County, a Republican county, clearly needs that very badly, and it is something we need in Beaufort County as well. Mack Hodges, Eltha Booth, and T.W. Allen are all Cheeseman sock puppets. |
