    Mr. William Lee "Billy" Mitchell, age 86, a resident of Washington, NC died Tuesday May 14, 2024, at his home with his family by his side.

    A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday May 17, 2024, at Wayside Presbyterian Church in Chocowinity officiated by Michael Lee Mitchell and Laurel Craig. A burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery in Washington. Austin Mitchell, Aaron Mitchell, Jacob Perry, Matthew Mitchell, Linwood Braxton, Reed Cutler, and John Oswald will serve as pallbearers.

    The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday May 16, 2024, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington.

    Mr. Billy was born in Beaufort County on May 18, 1937, son of the late William Oswald Mitchell and the late Leida Fulcher Mitchell. He was a graduate of Washington High School. Mr. Billy married Madeline Maybell Smith who preceded him in death. He later married the former Eldean Quidley Cutler who survives. During his working career he was the general manager of Smith Brothers Grocery Store, owned his own courier service, worked at Coastal Watercare Systems and Buddy's Inc. Altogether he worked approximately 70 years. He loved sports and had a passion that led him to be a little league baseball umpire. Mr. Billy loved traveling the open road. At his home church, Wayside Presbyterian Church, he was a deacon, treasurer and elder. He loved his church family as much as his own family.

    Surviving along with his wife, Eldean, of the home are his children: Billy Earl Mitchell and his wife Rhonda, Michael Lee Mitchell and his wife LaDonna, Julie Perry and her husband Michael, Casey Cutler and his wife Meredith; grandchildren: Brandon Mitchell and his wife Megan, Matthew Mitchell and his wife Kayla, Lindsey Mitchell and her husband Evan, Savanna Haught, Austin Mitchell and his wife Brittney, Aaron Mitchell, Allison Perry, Jacob Perry, Marla Cutler, Reed Cutler, Sarah Broadway and her husband Johnny, John Oswald and his wife Lindsay; great grandchildren: Henry, Blair, Elliott, Emily, Maddie, Charlie, Waylon, Aiden, Mackenzie, John, Walker, Stetson, and William; a brother: Larry Mitchell; a nephew: David; and nieces: Mary Jo, and Carla; and a special friend Jennett "J.C." Clark.

    Mr. Billy was preceded in death, along with his parents, by brothers: Tommy Mitchell, and Terry Mitchell; and his first wife Madeline Maybell Mitchell.
