    Mr. Lee Edward Knott, Jr., age 80, a resident of 603 Shorewood Drive, Washington Park, died Monday afternoon July 1, 2013 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.

    A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Friday July 5, 2013 at Oakdale Cemetery officiated by Rev. Edmund Terrell Knott.

    Mr. Knott was born on August 6, 1932, in Valdosta, GA, son of the late Lee Edward Knott and Pauline Meeder Knott. He was a 1950 graduate of Washington High School and attended Davidson College from 1951-1952. In 1954, he graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While at UNC-CH, he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. During 1954 – 1957, he served his country as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force. In 1964, he graduated from the Duke University School of Law and practiced law from 1964 – 2004. Mr. Knott was a member of the N.C. Bar Association, American Legion, and Washington Yacht and Country Club. He loved to sail, fish, ski, play tennis and back pack. He was an animal lover especially his dogs.

    On November 18, 1961, he married the former Patty Mayne who survives.

    In addition to his wife, Patty, of the home, he is survived by his brothers: Dr. Rufus Henry Knott, II of Washington and Eddie Tayloe Knott and his wife, Rena Terrell Knott of New Bern and his nephews: Rufus H. Knott, III, Edmund Terrell Knott and Lee E. Knott, III.

    The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
