Carolyn Hawkins Sessoms | Eastern NC Now

    Carolyn Hawkins Sessoms, age 79 a resident of Yuma, AZ, and formerly of Washington, NC died peacefully, Sunday July 21, 2024, at Yuma Nursing Home in Yuma, AZ.

    A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, August 1, 2024, at Oakdale Cemetery in Washington, NC, officiated by Pastor Darren Walker.

    Carolyn was born on June 30, 1945, to the late John Robert Hawkins and Doris Jefferson Hawkins. She attended Washington High School. Carolyn loved to travel and made her home in several places including Washington, NC, Clinton, NC, Alaska, and Arizona.

    Survivors include sister Betty Main of Blounts Creek, NC, brother Dennis Hawkins (Debra) of Washington, sister Wendy H. Troup (Rodney) of Vanceboro, sons, Samuel A. Smith (Betty) of Yuma, AZ, Jeff Smith (Angela) of Albertson, NC, daughter, Melissa Kompkoff (Keddie) of Kenai, Alaska, grandchildren, Emmett Johnson, Samantha Kompkoff (Blake) of Kenai, Alaska, Maegan Canton (Sean) of Clinton, NC, great grandchildren, Ahlani & Alora Riley of Kenai, Alaska, Addyson, Tyler and Delaney Canton of Clinton, NC.

    She was preceded in death by her grandson Joshua Kompkoff of Kenai, Alaska, a brother-in-law Wallace Main of Blounts Creek, NC and nephew Robbie Main of Blounts Creek, NC.

    The family would like to thank Yuma Nursing Home for the exceptional care Carolyn received at their facility in Yuma, AZ. Our family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Andy Hastings of Yuma, AZ. Andy was her loyal, faithful friend and caregiver. Andy made sure her fridge was stocked with her favorite snacks and drinks (Diet Coke). Even on her worst days, Andy always brought a smile to her face. Carolyn truly loved her guardian angel Andy.
