    Joyce Ann Hassell Boahn, age 91, a resident of Washington, died Friday, August 2, 2024, in her home with loving family by her side.

    A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday August 6, 2024 in the sanctuary of First Church of Christ and will be officiated by Ray West and Johnny Pressley. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Will Boahn, Jamie Lewis, Jesse Nichols, Ricky Skiles, Toby Hough and Tucker Massie will serve as pallbearers.

    The family will receive friends at the home at 108 Knight Street, Washington, NC 27889, following the graveside service at Oakdale Cemetery.

    Mrs. Boahn was born in Hickory, Virginia on March 24, 1933 to Robert Hassell and Mildred Oliver Hassell. On June 3, 1951, she married Charles F. Boahn, the same month she graduated from Roper High School.

    Throughout her life, Joyce was a homemaker, babysitter, and later a cashier at John Small and Washington High School in Washington, NC. Mrs. Boahn enjoyed and excelled in cooking, sewing, playing tennis and basketball, gardening and spending time at her church and with her family. She was a member of First Church of Christ and was a member of the Friendship Class.

    Surviving along with her husband, Charles F. Boahn Sr. of the home, are three children, Debbie Nichols of Washington, NC, Chuck Boahn (Jane) of Oriental, NC, Cameron Heath Boahn of Butner, NC; seven grandchildren, Jamie Lewis (Annette) of Wendell, NC, Jesse Nichols (Allie), Kip Boahn (Elsi) of Zwettl, Austria, Will Boahn (Mandie) Chocowinity, NC, Erin Massie of Washington, NC, and Emily Voliva (Toby Hough), of Raleigh, NC; sixteen great-grandchildren including Madison Boahn, Luka Boahn, Tucker Massie, Emily Massie, Sam Massie, Blake Hough, Elliot Hough, August Hough, Ashlen Nichols, Lily Nichols, Ava Nichols, Jarrett Sosebee, Tyler Sosebee, Brice Sosebee, and Jaxson Lewis.

    She is preceded in death by her daughter Linda Faye Boahn, a granddaughter, Charity Lewis, her mother and father, her grandparents William and Ann Oliver who helped raise her in Roper, and her sister, Jackie Downing.
