Joyce “Janice” Janet Smith | Eastern NC Now

    Joyce "Janice" Janet Smith, age 83 a resident of Chocowinity, died Sunday August 18, 2024, at ECU Health Beaufort Hospital.

    A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington, with Ervin Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Ronald Baker, Jr., Jason Baker, Kevin Baker, William Wainwright, Michael Peele and Dereck Anthony will serve as pallbearers.

    The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Paul Funeral Home and Crematory of Washington, and other time at the home.

    Janice was born on September 9, 1940, in Beaufort County, NC to the late Rufus and Effie Modlin Cox. She owned and operated a house cleaning business. Janice enjoyed cross stitching and embroidery. She loved doing word puzzles, spending time with her grandchildren and going to church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, William Earl "Dick" Campbell, son Charlie Lee Campbell and a stepsons, Charles Steven Smith and Eddie Lee Smith.

    Survivors include husband, Charlie Lee Smith of the home, daughters, Joyce Ann Baker of Chocowinity and Margaret Elizabeth Wainwright (Allen) of Chocowinity, sister, Nelda Campbell of Washington, six grandchildren, three step grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and seven step great grandchildren.
