    Ervin Ricks Elks, Jr., age 81, a resident of Chocowinity, NC died Friday January 3, 2025 at his home.

    A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday January 8, 2025, at the 15th Street Church of God and will be officiated by Rev. Mike Bayer, Rev. John Smith, Rev. Randy Wallace, and Rev. Ron Mizelle. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.

    Pallbearers include, Chase Baynor, Zachary Burcik, Ayden Boggs, Allen Black, Hayden Crisp and Howard Lilley.

    The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the funeral hour Wednesday January 8, 2025 at the 15th Street Church of God.

    Mr. Elks was born in Beaufort County on June 3, 1943 to the late Ervin Ricks Elks and Gladys Crisp Elks. He was retired 25 years from Elks Rest Home and was a faithful member of the 15th Street Church of God. He farmed throughout his life, enjoyed being on his tractor, hunting, running dogs, and fishing. Most of all he loved Jesus and his church.

    Survivors include his five children, Paula Elks Roman and husband Charles of Chocowinity, Timothy Ricks Elks of Chocowinity, Susan Elks Black and husband Allen of Durham, Vickie Elks Baynor of Washington, Kristy Elks Crisp and husband Fonzie of Grimesland, eight grandchildren, Mary Beth Stroud and husband Donnie, Chelsea Baynor and fiancé Braxton Gardner, Chase Baynor and wife Colleen, Chaleigh Asby and husband Michael, Zachary Burcik, Ayden Boggs, Kaleigh Bullock and husband Hunter, Hayden Crisp, and five great grandchildren, Sawyer Stroud, Hazel Stroud, Harper Stroud, Riggins Asby, Tannis Gardner, a sister, Ollie Elks Allen and a half sister, Lisa Delisa.

    He is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Peggy Martin Elks, two brothers, Tannis Medford Elks, Ashley Merriel Elks, and a sister, Nancy Dortres Smith.
