    Mr. Fred Casper Hollis, age 88, a resident of 79 Hollis Drive, Chocowinity, died Saturday, August 17, 2013 at his home.

    In honor of his wishes, private services will be held at a later date.

    Mr. Hollis was born in Beaufort County on March 16, 1925 to the late Harmon Jay Hollis and Nancy Elizabeth Alligood Hollis. On December 21, 1947 he married the love of his life, Carmella Ensalaco, who he swept up off the floor at a skating rink in Long Beach, California while he was stationed there. Mrs. Hollis preceded him in death on July 28, 2009.

    He proudly served in the United States Navy as a Machinist Mate during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Attalia (APA), and the U.S.S. Foreman, a destroyer escort. He was a Navy man to the end, collecting World War II memorabilia and loved sharing stories, pictures and information about his service. He received his certificate of shellback status after crossing the equator in 1944. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he was employed by Sperry Rand Corporation, owned and operated Hollis Office Equipment in Washington, NC and later developed an old farm and river swamp land into the Hills Point subdivision. He loved his family as it was the most important part of his life, and he carried the saying "It's not where you go in life, It's who you have beside you that matters."

    Survivors include daughters, Debra H. Hardee, Judith A. Hollis, grandchildren, Shellie Ingalls, Hollie I. Jones, great grandchildren, Hannah E. Jones, Nathan R. Cutler, brother, Harmon Hollis and sisters, Nancy Hollis and Peggy Alligood.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Saturday Night Jamboree, c/o, Marlene Rouse, 410 North Wood Rd., Washington, NC 27889.
