Populist nationalist anti-immigration N-VA forms new coalition gov't in Belgium | Eastern NC Now

after 8 months of coalition talks

ENCNow

Belgium has become the latest European county to form a government led by a populist nationalist anti-immigration party of the right.  After eight months of coalition talks since the parliamentary election, a new government has been formed led by the populist nationalist anti-immigration New Flemish Alliance (N-VA) party.  The new prime minister will be Bart de Wever, former mayor of Antwerp.  De Wever announced the new coalition formatiion in a press conference with Belgium's King Phillipe.

Since the EU headquarters is in Belgium's capital of Brussels, it is ironic that the Belgian national government will now be led by a Eurosceptic party.

Meanwhile, in Austria coalition talks continue to hammer out a new government between the populist nationalist anti-immigration Freedom Party and the traditional conservative Austrian Peoples Party.  The parties have already announced agreement on taking hard line immigration policies and to focus the spending cuts needed to balance the budget on cutting climate subsidies for things like electric cars and solar panels.  The Freedom Party finished first in the election and the Peoples Party second.  The Freedom Party's leader is expected to be the new chancellor (prime minister).

The EU bureaucrats, sometimes called the Eurocrats, are badly out of touch with the people of the nations of Europe on immigration policy. More countries need to follow the UK's Brexit. Getting eurosceptic parties in control of national governments is the first step.
