    Mr. Julius Arthur Cooper, age 88, a resident of 364 Mill St. Belhaven, NC died Saturday August 24, 2013 at his home.

    A graveside funeral service will be held 3 PM Monday August 26, 2013 at Davis Cemetery in the Pungo Community of Pantego. The service will be officiated by Bob Beltz and Kent Gurganus. Mr. Cooper’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends 1 PM to 2 PM Monday at West Belhaven Church of Christ and other times at the home.

    Mr. Cooper was born in Beaufort County on October 28, 1924 son of the late Rumulus Elijah Cooper and the late Livvie Liverman Cooper. He was a graduate of Pantego High School. On October 30, 1946 he married the former Thelma Gray Cox who survives. Mr. Cooper was owner & operator of Thel’s Shop of Belhaven. He was a member of West Belhaven Church of Christ and was very active in his church where he was a Sunday school teacher, Deacon and Elder his entire adult life.

    Surviving along with Mr. Cooper’s wife Thelma of the home are three daughters: Diane Marslender and husband Marshall, Gail Davis and Debbie Steadman and husband Timothy all of Belhaven; six sons: Gerry Cooper of Belhaven, Terry Cooper and wife Pat of Belhaven, Vann Cooper and wife Debbie of Washington, Glenn Cooper of Belhaven, Mark Cooper of Belhaven and Reid Cooper and wife Jenna of Belhaven; a sister Dorothy C. Rose of Pantego; twenty one grandchildren; twenty three great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Mr. Cooper was predeceased by a son-in-law Larry D. Davis, Sr. and a brother: Roswell Cooper.
