Hegseth orders 3,000 troops with armored vehicles to guard southern border | Eastern NC Now

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered 3,000 active duty troops to the southern border to provide "full operational control" of the border.  Most of the troops are from an armored brigade equipped with Stryker armored vehciles, although there are also specialists in areas like engineering and intelligence.

European countries have long deployed military units, often with armored vehicles to defend their borders against illegal alien migrant incursions.  Poland, LIthuania, Latvia, Hungary, Austria, Macedonia, and Greece have all included armored combat vehicles in border duty against migrants, and Greece also deployed tanks.

Meanwhile, the Border Patrol is reporting a record low number of border crossers, with Feburary 2025 down 94% from February 2024.
