Ireland may get a champion fighter against illegal immigration as its next president when it votes in November.  A leading sports figure, MMA heavyweight champion Conor MacGregor, is gearing up to run for Ireland's presidency.  An outspoken opponent of mass migration, MacGregor is signalling that will be a major theme of his campaign.

MacGregor is particularly targeting the EU Migration Pact which he srongly opposes and is calling for a referendum of the Irish people on whether or not to accept it. "Although I greatly oppose this pact, it is neither mine nor the government's choice to make,"  MacGregor declared, "It is the people of Ireland's choice - always.  That is true democracy."
