Bonnie Mae Peele | Eastern NC Now

    Bonnie Mae Peele, age 87, a resident of Chocowinity, died Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Carolina East Medical Center in New Bern.

    A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Edward Christian Church with David Linton officiating. Burial will follow in the Edward Church Cemetery. William Peele, Jr., Joshua Andrew Peele, James Alan Peele, Christopher Allen Lewis, Jr., Freddie Duncan and Marvin Edson will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer, Alexander Beaven.

    The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.

    Bonnie was born on February 16, 1938, in Beaufort County, to the late Hyatt Smithwick and Katie Rowe Smithwick. On May 30, 1954, she married James Peele. She was homemaker and a member of Edward Christian Church. Bonnie loved bowling, knitting, shopping, and spending time with her family, whom she loved dearly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James Peele who died January 14, 2009, her daughter, Vickie Hardy, her brothers, David and Robert Smithwick, her sister, Edna Earl Smithwick, a daughter in law, Lisa Marie Peele and a son in law, Levi Clyde Hardy.

    Survivors include her son, Robbie Peele of Grantsboro, a brother, Kenneth Smithwick of Arizona, seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
