UPDATE:  The leader of the Vox Party, Spain's populist nationalist anti-immigration party, has blamed Spain's socialist prime minister for ideological policies in energy management that endanger Spain as shown by the blackout crisis and called for an end to "climate fanaticism".

Talk about "Net Zero".  A total blackout IS Net Zero.

Spain's socialist government had just celebrated their first weekday when all of the electricity being used in the country was from "renewable" sources, that is solar, wind, or hydro. Then disaster struck.  A blackout took down all the power in Spain and Portugal and also impacted parts of France.  The technical problem, long known and warned about by electrical engineers, was that power made by inverters like wind and solar is much less robust in keeping a power grid running that power made by large spinning generators as in coal, gas, hydro, and nuclear.  If most of the power on the grid is made by inverters as in wind and solar, a small problem can quickly become a big problem that takes down the grid.  That is exactly what happened in Spain and it took down the grid in neighboring Portugal, too.

Something similar happened in the State of South Australia a few years ago.  Its Labour government had pushed wind hard and some solar, declaring that South Australia would become the "wind energy superpower".  They had just blown up their last coal power plant when they were hit by their first ever statewide blackout.  Strong spring storms had caused wind turbines in several wind farms to automatically shut down.  Without that power production, the grid crashed and it was a lengthy process to get it up again.

England also saw a blackout impacting millions of people a couple of years ago when a major offshore wind turbine operation suddenly and without warning shut down, taking down a large portion of the grid with it.

After Merkel's "Energy Transition" to wind and solar, Germany has had several near disasters with its grid.  Months-long "wind droughts" on several occasions left their grid starved for power.  Only imported coal fired power from Poland and nuclear power from France kept their grid up.

North Carolina should worry because thanks to Tim Moore and Phil Berger, North Carolina passed its own Green New Deal that is more radical than Europe's Green Deal.  As Duke Energy takes down cheap and reliable coal plants, we will have less robust power to keep our grid stable.
