Mr. Frank Theodore (Ted) Bowen entered the Church Triumphant on September 7, 2013.

A celebration of his life will be conducted on Thursday, September 12, 2013, at the First United Methodist, Washington, NC at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Danny Allen presiding. A private burial service will take place at a later date.

Born in Beaufort County on November 12, 1938, Mr. Bowen was the son of the late Frank Theodore Bowen, Sr. and Rosamond Bolger Bowen. He attended St. Agnes Academy and local schools and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1960. Mr. Bowen served in the United States Army for two years in France, Ft. Hood, Texas, and Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. He was employed with Dun and Bradstreet in Raleigh, N.C. and was promoted five times in three years. He was transferred to Dun and Bradstreet in New York, where he worked as a financial analyst. He was later recruited by International Nickel Corporation where he was employed until his return to North Carolina in 1972. He became the Eastern Regional Personnel Director for the North Carolina Department of Human Resources. In 1996 he received the N.C. Public Health Association Distinguished Service Award. In 1998 he was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine. Upon his retirement in 1998 he developed his own consulting firm, FTB Consulting.

Mr. Bowen was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church, an avid reader, golfer, gardener, and a gifted wood craftsman. His ministry of sharing his hand-made oak crosses with people throughout the community was a special gift.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Lorre Alligood Bowen, his daughter, Christine Bowen Wilhelm, and his grandson, Patrick Alexander Wilhelm.

The family will receive friends in the church parlor following the service on September 12. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the New Horizons fund at First United Methodist Church, 304 West Second Street, Washington, N.C. 27889.
