    Mrs. Johnnie Waters Harris, age 96, a resident of Washington, NC and formerly of Portsmouth, VA passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at her home with her family and friends at her bedside.

    There will be a graveside celebration of her life at 12:30 PM, Friday, September 13, 2013 in Pamlico Memorial Gardens officiated by Tony Krantz. Special music will be provided by Tony Krantz. Tripp Harris, Todd Smith and Troy Smith will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Hillside Funeral Service and travel in procession to the cemetery.

    Mrs. Harris was born December 16, 1916 in Washington, NC daughter of the late Bonner I. Waters and Edith Cutler Waters. She was a homemaker and married to James A. Harris, Sr., her devoted husband of 60 years, who preceded her in death on November 14, 1999. Mrs. Harris was a member of Beaver Dam Church of Christ and formerly a member of Park View Christian Church, Portsmouth, VA. She returned to Washington in 2001.

    She is survived by her son, James A. Harris, Jr. and wife Selba of Alpharetta, GA; her daughter, Kay Harris Smith and husband Ed of Chocowinity, NC; her grandchildren, Tripp Harris and wife Cambree of Suwanee, GA, Tracy Harris Woodall and husband Jason of Jefferson, GA, Todd Smith and wife Tschudy of San Jose, CA and Troy Smith and wife Jennifer of Pinetown, NC; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

    In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Alta Mae Alligood, Lola Alligood, Linwood "Bonner" Waters and Dennis Waters.

    In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to Beaver Dam Church of Christ, 5125 Hwy 264 E., Washington, NC 27889.
