As gas prices fall nationally, Speedway jacks them up again massively in local area | Eastern NC Now

the local gas price yo-yo strikes again

ENCNow

National reports are showing falling gas prices, with projections that by Memorial Day later this month, gas prices will be the lowest nationally in over 20 years.  Why, then, did serial local gas price gouger Speedway raise their gas prices locally late yesterday by over 30 cents per gallon?

https://www.breitbart.com/economy/2025/05/20/memorial-day-set-for-lowest-gas-prices-in-over-20-years/

This is hardly the first time that Speedway has massively jacked up local gas prices at a time they were falling nationally.  What then happens is that other outlets match their increase, but immediately start cutting again, forcing Speedway to also cut.  Speedway is always the instigator of these unjustified huge price increases.  Eventually, a new round of price cuts by competitors will bring the price back to a reasonable level.  Then Speedway will make another massive price increase.  This yo-yo effect has been going on for some time.  Speedway seems stuck on wanting a price of $2.99 a gallon, which in recent months is always the level they ratchet it back to.

Speedway is the consumers sworn enemy when it comes to  gas prices.

The price Speedway always tries to hike the local gas price to is $2.99 a gallon until their competitors pull it back down. They are price gougers.

Wow, that did not last long. Murphy's and Duck Thru matched Speedway this morning but within hours, Murphy's had knocked 20 cents off the gas price. Then Speedway retreated back to where they started yesterday.

We're on to the gas price gougers at Speedway and never buy gas or anything else there. When they screw us the way they do, it is time to just avoid them. Murphy's Express and Quality Plus are the good guys who lead the price back downward to where it should be.
