Mr. Marvin Colon Latham, Jr., age 66, a resident of 112 Dogwood Drive, Washington and formerly of New Bern, died Saturday, October 5, 2013 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

    Mr. Marvin Colon Latham, Jr., age 66, a resident of 112 Dogwood Drive, Washington and formerly of New Bern, died Saturday, October 5, 2013 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

    Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at Trinity Episcopal Church, Chocowinity, conducted by Rev. Joseph "Sonny" Browne and Richard Hodges. Burial will follow in Trinity Cemetery, Chocowinity.

    The following will serve as pallbearers: Matthew Latham, Austin Latham, Sammy Deans, Chuck Powell, David Ellis and Warren Taylor.

    Honorary pallbearers will be Daniel Lewis and Edmund Guthrie.

    Mr. Latham was born in Jacksonville, N.C. on May 19, 1947. He was the son of Hattie Elizabeth Faircloth Latham and the late Marvin Colon Latham, Sr. Mr. Latham Served in the National Guard. He was a Master Technician mechanic at New Bern Toyota from 1990 to 2012. Prior to that, Mr. Latham worked at Padgett Toyota in Jacksonville for 10 years. He served on the Jacksonville Rescue Squad for 10 years and was a member of the Lafayette Masonic Lodge #73. Mr. Latham was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church where he served as an usher. In his spare time, he loved to play golf. His favorite spare time activity was dancing. He taught shag dancing in Onslow, Carteret and Craven Counties. He was a member of the Twin Rivers Shag Club and the Eastern N.C. Shag Club.

    On June 2, 2012, he married the former Mary Jo Dixon, who survives.

    Mr. Latham is survived by his wife, Mary Jo of the home; his mother, Hattie F. Latham of Jacksonville; his son, Chris Latham and his wife, Ulene of Hampstead; his daughter, Tamara Deane and her husband, Tim of Morristown, TN; two brothers, Gary Latham and his wife, Teresa of Jacksonville, Tim Latham and his wife, Melissa of Pennsylvania; his sister, Joyce Henry of Ft. Smith, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Nathaniel Marshburn, Jesse Marshburn, Brittany Latham, Matthew Latham, Gavin Latham; two great grandchildren, Wyatt Marshburn, Dallas Marshburn and several nieces and nephews.

    Mr. Latham was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Colon Latham, Sr.

    The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, October 7, 2013 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the home.
