    Press Release:

Winston-Salem, NC  -  Governor Pat McCrory was at Winston-Salem State University this afternoon to conduct a meeting between educators and local business leaders.

The governor has been leading roundtables around the state to see just how businesses and educational institutions can complement each other and work together to improve the state's economic outlook.

"Meetings like this provide valuable insight and direction for our administration," Governor McCrory said. "The first step toward a strong, educated workforce is combining the efforts of businesses and schools to create innovative, job-creating programs."

The governor thanked Chancellor Donald Reaves, Ph.D. for hosting the roundtable at the university. Representatives from Forsyth Technical Community College, Wake Forest University and the University of NC School of the Arts also participated. Governor McCrory's senior advisor on jobs and the economy, Tony Almeida, and his senior education advisor, Eric Guckian, also took part in the event.

While the Triad region's unemployment rate is lower than the state average, the need for new and existing companies to invest and expand was apparent to area leaders. Initiatives such as this year's tax reform package, the reorganization of the Department of Commerce and the governor's reconvening of the Education Cabinet were among the recent, innovative changes to state government that the group discussed.
