    Mrs. Corinne Mayo Smith, age 91, a resident of 1255 Cowell Farm Road, Washington died Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

    Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, October 12, 2013 from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington, conducted by Craig Godley. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.

    The following will serve as active pallbearers: Kevin Cutler, Keith Cutler, Gregory Cutler, Charlie Smith, Ken Harris, and Dennis Teel. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Buck, Eddie Elks, Jimmy Hawkins, and Charlie Mayo.

    Mrs. Smith, known by her family as "Mema", was born in Beaufort County on January 19, 1922. She was the daughter of the late Charlie Allen Mayo and Cannie Cannon Mayo. Mrs. Smith worked on the farm with her husband and later worked in retail sales. She was raised in Hodges Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church and attended Alligood Church of God as long as her health permitted. In her spare time, Mrs. Smith loved word find puzzles, talking on the phone, listening to gospel music and gardening as long as her health permitted.

    Mrs. Smith was married to Jesse Lee Smith, who preceded her in death in 1984.

    Mrs. Smith is survived by two daughters, Patricia Cutler and husband, Ernest of Blounts Creek, Jessie Carol of Washington; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

    In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by a son, Jimmie Smith; four brothers, Ottis Mayo, Jesse Mayo, Will Mayo, Charlie Edward Mayo and six sisters, Mamie Taylor, Ida Buck, Katie Lee Smith, Leona Sawyer, Louise Jarrett and Irene Jones.

    The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Saturday prior to the service at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and other times at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Ernest Cutler, 66 Mildred's Road, Blounts Creek.
