new poll: parties of right and center-right in Poland will win all parliamentary seats | Eastern NC Now

left to be shut out

ENCNow

Several polls in Poland are consistently showing that the left and center-left parties will be completely shut out of parliament in the upcoming election.  They all fall below the 5% threshold required to win any seats.

Polls show parliament will consist of four parties, the governing center-right and pro-EU Civic Platform, the populist nationalist Law and Justice Party of the newly elected Polish president, the more stridently populist nationalist Confederation Freedom and Democracy, and the Catholic-oriented monarchist Confederation of the Polish Crown.  The last three parties are all eurosceptic and would be expected to form a coalition led by Law and Justice.

Meanwhile, in Germany, the populist nationalist anti-immigration right Alternativ fur Deutschland (AfD) has a record lead in the polls at 27%, followed by the traditional conservative CDU/CSU at 24.5%, and the center-left Social Democrats a distant third at 14.5%.
