Amy Huitema Kelder | Eastern NC Now

    Mrs. Amy Huitema Kelder, age 89, a resident of Washington, NC died Saturday December 27, 2025, at her home with family by her side.

    The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday December 30, 2025, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington.

    Mrs. Kelder was born in Blitar, Indonesia on the Island of Java, daughter of the late Tjeerd Huitema and the late Mary Louise Leefers Huitema. She graduated from high school in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. On October 6, 1956, she married Eric Kelder, who preceded her in death on October 3, 2014. She immigrated to the US on December 31, 1956, and became a US Citizen in 1961. She was a corporate secretary at Texas Gulf. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, doing crafts and reading. Her special enjoyment was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of Mother of Mercy Catholic Church and had been attending church, with her daughter, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Chocowinity.

    Survivors include her daughters: Pat Harris and her husband Jeff of Williamston, Margie Boyd and her husband Todd of Chocowinity, Linda Jones and her husband Eddie of Nashville, NC, and Audrey Wilson and her husband Jerrell of Washington; grandchildren: Michelle Hooper of Washington, Kevin Hooper and his wife Antonella of Charlotte, Cassie Harris of Williamston, Lane Greene and her husband Alex of Raleigh, Kristen Boyd of Chocowinity, Eric Boyd of Chocowinity, Emily Edgerton and her husband Ryan of Nashville, Laura Beth Bass and her husband Olen of Nashville, and Michelle Jones of Billings MT and great grandchildren: Braxton Boyd of Chocowinity, Theo Hooper of Charlotte, Isaac Hooper of Charlotte, Lyra Greene of Raleigh, and Teven Jones of Ft. Riley, KA. She was predeceased, along with her parents and husband, by a brother: Roland Huitema; and a sister: Antoinette Leusen.

    In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made to the charity of one's choice.
