    Edward Lee Paul, age 88, of Washington, North Carolina, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026, at ECU Beaufort Hospital.

    A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at River Forest Manor, 738 E. Main Street, Belhaven, North Carolina. A private graveside service will be held for the family at Sidney Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverend David Pooser officiating.

    Edward was born on June 29, 1937, in Belhaven, North Carolina, to the late Sanna Smith Paul and Lee Edward Paul. Known to many as "Bud," he was raised on a small tobacco farm and graduated from John A. Wilkinson High School in Belhaven.

    He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, with service in North Africa and the Middle East during the Arab-Israeli conflict. Following his military service, Edward Lee enjoyed a successful career in the insurance business in Washington, North Carolina.

    Edward was known for his quick wit, warm humor, and contagious personality. He found his greatest joy outdoors, especially while hunting in Beaufort County, a place he dearly loved.

    He is survived by his devoted partner, Lou Ellen Edwards; his three children, Dr. Edward Lee Paul, Jr. and wife Laura of Wrightsville Beach, Norman Neal Paul and wife Anne of Emerald Isle, and Grant Matthew Paul and wife Olivia of Cape Carteret; seven grandchildren, Lee, Hannah, Tanner, Drake, Hailey, Ava, and Chloe; and his siblings, Don Paul and Ann Paul Harrison.

    He was preceded in death by his former wife, Betty Rothenberger Paul.
