Gloria Ann Alligood Woolard | Eastern NC Now

    Mrs. Gloria Ann Alligood Woolard, age 83, a resident of Washington, NC died Tuesday February 10, 2026, at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville.

    A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday February 17, 2026, at the Alligood Family Cemetery on the family farm. The service will be officiated by Marty Alligood.

    The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday February 16, 2026, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington.

    Mrs. Gloria was born in Beaufort County on August 4, 1942, daughter of the late Lewis Carmer Alligood and the late Mary Louise Whitaker Alligood. She was a graduate of Bath High School and continued her education at ECU College where she earned her BA degree in education. On June 29, 1963, she married Dewey Lee Woolard who preceded her in death on November 22, 2012. She was a teacher at Eastern Elementary School in Washington with over thirty years of service. Mrs. Gloria did not have any children of her own but played an important role in rising her nieces and nephews. She learned the art of becoming the family cook and made the best fruit cakes, fudge, and preserves. Mrs. Gloria also enjoyed gardening vegetables and flowers. She was a member of Rosemary Church of Christ and had attended Unity Church of Christ in Washington.

    Survivors include her nieces: Mary Etta Wilson Waters, and Dawn Wilson both of Washington; nephew: Frederick Lewis Wilson and his wife Ana of Virginia Beach; numerous great nieces and great nephews; members of her husband's family and many former students and friends. She was predeceased, along with her parents and husband by a brother: Lindon "Dookie" Alligood; and a sister: Betty Lou Alligood Wilson and her husband Fred.

    In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made to Blue Ridge College of Evangelism, P.O. Box 979, Wytheville, VA 24382.
