    Linwood "Ray" Peede passed in the early morning on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 in Greenville, NC. He was 82 years old, but you would never know it watching him walk and play 18 holes of golf. Born in Winterville, NC, he spent most of childhood and adult life in Raleigh before retiring to the golfing and boating lifestyle of Chocowinity, NC. After serving in the army, Ray became a longtime fixture in Raleigh owning Peede's Auto Shop for 40+ years, serving the Dixie Trail neighborhood and community through coaching and sponsorships of West Raleigh baseball. He also hosted a very regular "lunch crew" who voluntarily chose to eat food in a greasy service station.

    Ray was thriving in retired life, golfing multiple days a week at his home course of Cypress Landing, volunteering at First Methodist Church, working in his yard and taking the family boating or fishing the golf course ponds. He was "Mr. Fix it" for a lot of friends and family and taught a Masterclass on arriving early to events, napping in a recliner and getting a killer sock tan.

    He was a devoted husband to Judy, married for 45 years. They shared memorable trips around the National Parks out west, family beach trips to the Carolina coast, cruises and European ski vacations, dinners with friends and travel around the state to visit the grandkids in their various sports and activities. Ray's legacy continues through his children and their spouses, Millicent Montgomery, Kelly and Brooks Fogleman, Holly Griffin and Brian and Jenna Peede and his 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Mildred Peede, his brother, Warren Peede, his sister, Cynthia Rollins and his son, Norman Peede.

    A service is planned in Wesley Hall at First Methodist Church Washington, NC on Sunday March 22nd at 2:00pm (Visitation prior at 1:00pm). In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to First Methodist Church Washington, 304 W. 2nd Street, Washington, NC 27889.
