Will it be 51st state? Canadian province of Alberta set for independence referendum | Eastern NC Now

Citizens supporting independence top required signatures for referendum

ENCNow

Supporters of Canada's oil rich province of Alberta achieving independence from Canada  have secured the necessary signatures to require a provincial referendum on the issue later this year.  Although already passing the required number of signatures, they are collecting more and still have a month to go to do so. Conservative Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has pledged to make sure the referendum happens if the group achieved the signatures, and now they have.  Some believe it may lead to Alberta becoming the USA's 51st state.

Alberta has been the hotbed of the Wexit or Western Exit movement that seeks to take Alberta, along with Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia out of Canada.  The current Conservative government of Alberta has been a loggerheads with the national government over provincial authority.  Premier Smith pushed the Alberta Sovereignty Act through the provincial legislature and she signed it into law.  That act provides that the Alberta legislature can nullify any federal Canadian law or regulation within the priovince.  When it passed, Federal Prime Minister Trudeau threatened to take the issue to court, but Smith responded that if he did, she would have the Alberta legislature call an independence referendum.  Trudeau backed down.  The Alberta legislature has since voted to nullify a new set of federal climate regulations.

The United States fundamentally needs a long series of seriously smart politicians (which we have the beginnings of NOW) serving our Good People by employing the foundational support of our Founders greatest gift - The United States' Constitution - and once we get ourselves fully straightened out, by first overhauling our incredibly misguided education industry, we should and could start cherry picking our neighbors to audition them to become our next states.

Alberta, Greenland and Cuba come to mind. Maybe one day Mexico to finally secure our southern border, and fully win the real War on Drugs.

Alberta, its oil and other mineral reserves, and its conservative voters would be a great addition to the United States, an excellent 51st state, but would they really want to risk it if there is any possibility of the Democrats coming back to power here?
