poll: populist nationalist anti-immigration One Nation Party tied for top spot in Australia | Eastern NC Now

In a stunning new poll, the populist nationalist anti-immigration One Nation Party, led by Australian Senator Pauline Hanson, is now tied for first place with the governing Labor Party if a parliamentary election were held today.  One Nation received only 3% of the vote in last year's national parliamentary election, but came in a strong second in the recent state election in Labor's stronghold state of South Australia.

The poll, conducted by the respected UK-based polling firm YouGov found One Nation and Labor tied for first place with 27% each, followed by the traditional conservative "coalition" of the National Party, which runs in rural areas, and Liberal Party, which runs in urban areas, at 21%, with the far left Green Party fourth at 14%.

The One Nation Party was founded around the immigration issue, and opposes most legal immigration as well as all illegal immigration, and that is still its most important issue. However after last year's election, it has also been very vocal in opposition to climate alarmism and particularly strongly opposing Labor's energy transition to wind and solar.  That led the National Party to switch its position on wind and solar from ambivalence to outright opposition to wind and solar, and the Liberal Party to come out in opposition to wind and solar in all areas where the local people do not want it.  One Nation has been continuing to broaden its message.

Australia was highly successful in its crackdown on illegal immigration under former Liberal Party Prime Minister Tony Abbott some years ago with his military-led Operation Sovereign Borders, where boats smuggling illegal aliens were identified while still at sea and forcibly turned around at gunpoint before they reached Australia.  If the boats were not capable of returning, the illegal aliens aboard were deposited in a camp in New Guinea until they could be sent home.  They were not allowed to come into Australia at all.

It is not surprising after the terrorist attack at Bondi Beach that voters are turning to a party with a history of opposing immigration. Many anti-immigration parties seem to also be strongly opposed to the climate alarmist agenda, too.

Senator Hanson made a point on immigration and lack of assimilation by wearing a burqa herself into a session of the Australian Senate, for which she was reprimanded and suspended for a few days, but the publicity she got for that was well worth it.
