Hamilton Lester Chittum Jr. | Eastern NC Now

    Hamilton Lester Chittum Jr (HL) age 69, a resident of Washington, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2026.

    The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday May 4, 2026, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington.

    Born in Lynchburg, Virginia May 11 ,1956, to the late Hamilton Lester Chittum and Love Vallie Moyer Chittum.

    He grew up in Waynesboro, VA, where he enjoyed working at the bike shop, putting together and maintaining mountain bikes. He ended up at Smith Mountain Lake years later working on another passion of his at the marina as a boat and sea doo mechanic.

    In 2007 he wanted to be closer to his sister and best friend, so he and his dog moved to Washington, NC. Once he settled here, he worked in carpentry and building model cars. He collected hot wheel cars and built quite a collection. He had a knack that he could look at any automobile and could tell you the year, make and model of each, especially the older models of the 40's, 50's and 60's.

    His health declined in the last few years, but his kind heart and wit held strong. He would donate water to the City of Washington fire department who was always there so promptly with the EMS anytime he needed them. His kind heart will be missed by all that knew him.

    He was preceded in death by his parents Hamilton & Love Chittum, along with 3 nephews.

    He is survived by his sister Vickie C. Jessen and husband Doug of Washington, NC.
