General who directed Afghan withdrawal debacle is fired, and the left howls about it | Eastern NC Now

general's showboating made things worse

ENCNow

The firing of the army general who directed the disastrous US withdrawal from Afghanistan, Lt. General Chris Donohue by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has led to loud bellyaching on the left, including retired political generals.  Dohohue's most recent command was of US forces in Europe.  The left wants to whine about what a wonderful general he has been.

Donohue's decisions during the withdrawal have drawn deserved criticism such as his refusal to allow groups of US citizens waving US passports onto the airbase to evacuate, while allowing hordes of unvetted Afghans who just happened to be there onto the evacuation planes.  He was also noted for kicking evacuees off of an airplane so he could load a military trophy on a plane to take home.  Then there was Donohue's grandstanding to portray himself as "the last man out of Afghanistan.  The plane he was on, with lots of others getting out had its takeover delayed so he could stage a proper photoshoot of himself staged as the "last  one on the plane.

Donohue was, of course, also seeped in the Obama / Biden military DEI culture.  Secretary Hegseth is right that we need warfighters in our military, not strutting DEI peacocks.  Good riddance to Donohue.

Of course, the gnashing of teeth over Donohue started with the far left publication, The Atlantic.
