Republicans in Congress move to index capital gains taxes for inflation | Eastern NC Now
"No tax on inflation"
Republicans in both houses of Congress are pushing legislation to index capital gains taxes for inflation. They are also pushing the Treasury Secretary to do this through rulemaking powers even before Congress could act.
Currently, capital gains taxes are on total increase in the value of property, even though that change is partly or even completely the result of the dollar becoming worth less through inflation. That is real audacity. The government which causes inflation by its spending practices then taxes you as if that inflation is "income". This move would end that unfairness. This would be "No Tax on Inflation".
