Mrs. Margaret Louise Miller Cowell, age 86, a resident of Washington Park, died Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Spring Arbor in Greenville.

    Mrs. Margaret Louise Miller Cowell, age 86, a resident of Washington Park, died Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Spring Arbor in Greenville.

    The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory.

    A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM Tuesday in the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory, conducted by Rev. Ken Hall. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery in Washington.

    Louise was born in Beaufort County on November 18, 1939, to the late Leslie Earl Miller, Sr. and Lula Mae Respass Miller. She graduated from Washington High School in 1958, where she played on the girls' basketball team. She began her career at Fortescue Insurance and later worked in accounting at Pamlico Chemical Company in Washington.

    She was a member of the Washington Jaycees, United Daughters of Confederacy, Bosom Buddies of Beaufort County, and the First Methodist Church, where she served in the Circle of Joy. Louise had a love of trains, NASCAR, reading, traveling and especially of her family. Her passion also extended to genealogy, where she was instrumental in helping to start the Beaufort County Genealogical Society. Louise was recently recognized as a Charter Member serving as the first treasurer and book vendor. Her involvement continued in many roles from 1985 to 2026.

    On August 9, 1964, Louise married the love of her life, Charles Fowler Cowell, Jr. who preceded her in death on June 3, 2022.

    Louise is survived by her two sons, Charles Fowler Cowell III of the home, Patrick Leslie Cowell and wife, Kathy of Phoenix, Arizona; her sisters, Hazel M. Winslow and husband, Paul of Wilson and Joyce M. Gardner of Washington as well as many nieces and nephews.

    In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Laura Jane Adams and her brother, Leslie Earl Miller, Jr.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
