Doris Warren Gilbert | Eastern NC Now

    Doris Warren Gilbert, of Fairfield, Virginia, died Saturday, December 7, 2013. Born March 12, 1934 in Winsteadville, North Carolina.

    She was a daughter of the late Ned and Lula Davis Warren of Belhaven, North Carolina. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gilbert is preceded in death by a sister, Ernestine W. Corley of LaBelle, Florida.

    Surviving are her husband, John L. Gilbert; two children, Gregory Gilbert and wife Frances of Charlottesville and Cynthia Gilbert Georgallis and husband, Mark of Richmond; a sister, Wilma Warren Moore of Washington, NC; three grandchildren, John Davis Gilbert, Grace Mercer Gilbert and Martha Maria Georgallis.

    Mrs. Gilbert held several positions as a registered nurse for hospitals in Richmond, Charlottesville, and Newport News. She also worked as a public health nurse for James City County, Virginia. She was very active in the Lexington Garden Club, and was an avid gardener. She enjoyed cooking, painting, sailing, and spending time with friends and family.

    A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Harrison Funeral Chapel with the Pastor Tony Nix officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 19 at Westhampton Memorial Park in Richmond.

    In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Rockbridge Area Hospice, 315 Myers Street, Lexington, VA 24450.
