David N. Bass, Communications Director and Grants Officer

Prior to joining the John William Pope Foundation in 2012, David served as Associate Editor for the John Locke Foundation’s Carolina Journal. He broke a number of investigative stories and headed up election and legislative coverage.

Before joining the Locke Foundation, David served as Research Associate at the North Carolina Family Policy Council, where he wrote hundreds of news stories on a variety of cultural and economic issues.

David’s reporting, opinion, and analysis pieces have appeared in a wide range of publications, including National Review Online, The American Spectator, Education Week, and Education Next. His work has been featured by The Drudge Report, BigGovernment.com, RedState.com, The Washington Times, The Charlotte Observer, RealClearPolitics.com, and the Alliance Defense Fund.

David is a frequent guest on radio stations across the country, including Raleigh’s WPTF-AM, Chicago’s WYLL-AM, Austin’s KLOG-FM, Newport’s WTKF-FM, Wilmington’s WLTT-FM, and American Family Radio.

In his free time, David enjoys collecting rare 20th century books, watching old-school film noir, and dancing the Carolina shag. A native of Greensboro, North Carolina, he holds a B.A. in journalism from Thomas Edison State College in Trenton, New Jersey.
