In regard to your recent "Sound Off" section of the WDN, May 20th issue, an "anonymous caller," whose sole objective was to denigrate a duly elected county commissioner, I wondered what the purpose really was here.

At the WDN /WBCCC Candidate's Forum, of October 15, 2018, its format limited participating candidates the time to fully conceptualize and deliver full explanations to the many significant issues that we face; however, that still did not hinder me.

Just yesterday, while campaigning at the polls, I was shown that Frankie Waters is making a political issue out of the fact that I am on record, recently at the WDN political forum, of wishing to revamp Beaufort County school security to a far more effective plan, costing far less money.

The County Commissioner or Sheriff races get more attention, and while those races are indeed important, the voters need to not sacrifice the opportunity to reform the office of the Clerk of Superior Court. Contrary to what the WDN would have you think that office is in great need of reform.

These are estimated daily expense numbers for the new 176 bed jail as based on an average 140 inmate population, i.e., 110 local inmates plus 30 transfers from state prison system (Al Klemm,: My Turn WDN, March 15, 2014).

On Feb. 19, 2012 the lead article in the WDN tells us that according to the intrepid chairman of NC-20 (a coalition of 20 eastern North Carolina counties) "We killed sea level rise inflation".

The WDN persists in its whining about Beaufort County being split in the proposed House districting plan. We pointed out that the plan does so because of the requirements of the Voting Rights Act.
