Christopher - How well versed are you on the first three books of the Old Testament?

I have a pocket Constitution at the ready.

Cand you tell me the article of "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" clause?

Lt. Dan for Governor of North Carolina in 2016.

I have a certain talent for picking the best politicians for the right job. Do they win general elections?

Some times not so much ... but then again, who wants to have electoral responsibility for the mess this country is deeply in?

For everyone that is so excited about Same Sex Marriage, you have to know that the ruling of this one activist Federal judge out of Asheville will get appealed.
61% of North Carolinians voted for the Defense of Marriage Act. One activist judge does not have the gravitas to impose his will upon the 61% without a fight.

I don't know whether to say, "'I'm humbled and think-you', or to run."

My wife says run.

Sure, if you can get another 4,000 (that's what I got last time - set a record for Beaufort County in that election cycle - my how things change) to do it. Heck, even I might vote for myself.

Let me tell you who wouldn't - my wife. She is more than getting use to me not being a county commissioner.

Thanks Gene,

And I love your posts.

Why?

They get a bunch of views. I guess I'm shallow that way.

Beaufort County NOW does not certify the veracity of our contributor's posts; however, we do certify that: 1) we know who our contributors are, and 2) that there be a rudimentary quality to the presentation of their message.

Beaufort County NOW is a Moderated Informational Platform, and while we have created a technologically superior platform to all others, originating here from eastern North Carolina, we only moderate those aforementioned points - real people, proper presentation.

If any one has a problem with the subject matter of our contributors, we suggest that you contact the offending party, by our CMS's private message system, or by any other suitable method as is your practice.

Beaufort County NOW is a steady champion of the the First Amendment of the United States Bill of Rights, and as that champion, who presents an unparalleled platform for others to communicate from, we expect those contributors to speak the truth as they know it to be, irrespective of the confines of any malicious restraint to inhibit that truthful speech, which still remains free here at Beaufort County NOW ... for perpetuity it shall remain free.

That is my unconditional promise.

This is BCN's top post of the week, and for good reason: Good, knowledgeable citizens care when their representative speech is limited.

Gene gets a Gold Star for understanding how a democratic republic is supposed to work.

Excellent comment Charles to show your true colors; however, I have never used the phrase, "liberal wacko", nor will you find that phrase used, by me, in all of the more than 30,000 pages that constitutes BCN.

You can discover that truth if you employ the Search feature of our date base.

Tonight, at a Beaufort County Commissioner meeting, I listened to a number of people, who lean very Left, say stuff that just was not right, some of it outright lies. Why is it that is so often the norm with the those that champion the Left way of governing and the advocacy of such? Why is it that they just can't get it right; just say things, thinking that others will think them accurate, maybe even wise, just because they possess the temerity to ingratiate themselves in public.

I say a lot of things, all publicly, and I'm not fond of, nay, I do ridicule, with impunity, those that are incompetent and dishonest. I just won't tolerate this behavior from public servants, who are elected to serve by other like minded individuals. Regardless, I have never used your phrase "liberal wacko".

Sorry you missed your opportunity to say something profound and accurate, which your comment exhibited neither.

I can't speak for Harry Meredith, Jr., but, I bet he wouldn't be offended that you accused him of being a "Conservative".
Commented: Monday, October 6th, 2014 @ 7:19 pm By: Stan Deatherage
Just a reminder to all, as a slave to the sake of redundancy, if anyone wants to make a statement as a post to support your position, please put some thought in it, and send the post to me by private message on BCN, and I'll post it.

We average about 9,000 readers a day; best in Beaufort County. Yesterday, we served about 13,000 readers, and on a Sunday, the slowest day of the week.

Must be Harry's post.

Those are by far the most important paragraphs, especially right now at this point in time. These paragraphs were what I consider extra-substantive.

Coleman's pocket ... hmmm. That must be a mighty big pocket.

I am many things, but not having the capacity to understand what I read is not one of them. In fact, I've made a living understanding the written word, and understanding it about as deep as it can be understood, searching for the theme, every nuance of every story.

What I commented on earlier is that the news from this piece is more about Sheriff Alan Jordan, and not as much about Candidate Ernie Coleman.
Commented: Monday, September 29th, 2014 @ 8:14 pm By: Stan Deatherage
People see different things in the words of others. I get that.

However, what I gathered from this rather provocative commentary by the former chief deputy, Harry Meredith Jr., was his reveal of the current sheriff, Alan Jordan.

Gene, I told you to stop using that "hate" word, and all derivatives of it.

Just because Eric Holder may also be the first Affirmative Action AG, and we realize it, it does not mean we hate the man. We, John and myself, just expect justice from the Justice Department.

I agree with you, John, on the optics of pardon. If the Republicans gain both houed of congress, then maybe Holder will be finally prosecuted for his crimes.

Almost makes one want to vote for the establishment Republican Thom Thillis ... almost.
Commented: Sunday, September 28th, 2014 @ 11:25 pm By: Stan Deatherage
Thom Thillis truly does not have the base Republican vote in this election.

I would like to comment that he is just moving to the center to win in the General Election, but I really think this is who he really is.
Commented: Sunday, September 28th, 2014 @ 10:04 pm By: Stan Deatherage
Tell me, and everyone else this John: As a former police officer of some notable distinction, do you have any shred of respect for Eric Holder?

I sense none.

Then, how can Democrats discuss the man's legacy without considering his lawless behavior? Is it about time that America put this former judge where he belongs - in jail.

Commented on Banned Books

"Jesus loves the little children."

Kiddie porn is the most heinous crime this side of pre-meditated murder for profit, probably worse.

All children before the Age of Consent, but in varying degrees as is their young ages, should be allowed to retain whatever innocence that they can enjoy. To defile that innocence is such an intolerable great sin, so terrible and so unforgivable.

I read so many books as a teenager, a lot of them, that may have been banned in some sectors - Vonnegut, Hesse, Castaneda, Gibran, Orwell. In essence, if it ain't porn, it shouldn't be banned.

Porn is not a confluence of ideas, it is not essential, it is not art. I pity the idiot that says it is.

Actually the mental hospitals were closed when we had a Democrat governor, a Democrat NC House, and a Democrat NC Senate.

Maybe, the Republicans should re-open these essential institutions. This is what government does, or should do, not subsidies to corporations, film incentives, or welfare to those that won't work.

One day this all will end. It would be better to stop it now.

Just had our first Homeland be-heading yesterday. I suggest that we find, and kill Islamist terrorist where we can find them, rather than here.

Iraq was as good a place as any. We should have colonized the nation to the point that they were better directed toward a more productive exisitence.

Colin Powell was forced out after making far too many mistakes in advising the President.
Commented: Saturday, September 27th, 2014 @ 9:26 am By: Stan Deatherage
"Bush Lied, Kids Died!"

I seem to remember that 'Hillary Clinton, John Kerry and almost every other Democrat in Congress lied and Kids Died'(!), and then blamed their mistake on Bush/Cheney. Why? Because they are Democrats, and that is what Democrats do - thoughtless in practice, blaming in defense of their own mistakes.

Yeah, I remember all of that. It sure would be nice to have those bases back now in Iraq right now. I bet the Iraqis would appreciate us back in their pitiful country.

Bush's only mistake is that did not colonize Iraq, and use the oil money to turn that country around. He should not have allowed Colin Powell to convince him to enact the de-Baathification of Iraq. Huge mistake.

Actually after I wrote this, and then heard The Amateur extol the supposed virtues of his fellow lawyer, I almost questioned: "Too tough Stan?"

Then later that evening, I heard Greta, another lawyer and truly no Conservative, tear into the incompetent dishonesty of Holder, and I remembered how much I forgot, or did not have time to mention all of this one Man's disreputable, dishonest behavior in the piece I wrote, and it hit me square: I would feel much about this man, America's top lawyer, if he was in prison for at least as much time they gave John Mitchell.

There are many "patriots" that feel this way.

Government will always own land. It is the People's land.

I am no longer in politics, and soon I will no longer be in government, but Hood is.

If the process is properly structured, as he and I expect it to be, Hood will will vote to accept the Federal government's bequeath of this property to Beaufort County.

By your analysis, Hood will no longer remain a Conservative.

I beg to differ on this.

This is one situation where I respectfully disagree with the Beaufort Observer's analysis.

I do this while agreeing that the Democrat and RINO led Beaufort County Commissioners are most proficient in making a 'sows ear out of a pink purse'.

What I do know, as well as anyone in this county, is land. Free land, used efficiently, makes money. I know how to do this with properly purchased land by practice and purpose. Doing it with free land, however the conditions, 'is a piece of cake'.

Now, as everyone know by now, I will no longer be on the board to guide these errant commissioners, but Hood will still be there. Also, if these illogical managers of the people's property will not listen to Hood, and most times they don't, as they haven't myself, they may listen to a qualified consultant.

What Hood and I know about land, and if thought we were were a good team as county commissioners, we may be an even better team here, we will know whether the consultant is wise in his advice.

If he is not, Hood will scream it from his position as commissioner, and I will scream it from my position as publisher of Beaufort County NOW.

It should be a winning proposition if the logical stewardship of this great gift to Beaufort County's people can be properly managed.

What's the other option: disabuse yourself of a grand gift. Let me remind you of this one Shakespearean truth: "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth."

This is an issue that we agree on.

If it is a cost issue, the costs are far greater to society for the mentally ill to not be cared for; however, it is incumbent upon the families to do their part as well, which is a sometime occurrence.

On a compassion level, if our society has the means, I believe Jesus would want us to tend to their troubles.

I don't get the whole tattoo thing either.

When I was growing up, tattoos were frowned upon. I accepted that, but as I grew older, I well understood tattoos for our patriots in the U.S. Navy and the USMC.

As I raised my children, I taught against tattoos for my children, and I preached that they not marry those with tattoos, unless they marry members of the U.S. military.

So far, I am 4 for 4 with my adult children in that department. Also, none of my children have problems with controlled substances.

Isn't the reality of living a responsible life difficult enough without considering new body art, or worrying about how you can maximize your partying efforts?

I adamantly warned North Carolina Republican Party Chairman Claude Pope, back on August 16, 2014 - beaufortcountynow.com - that if he does not do his part to shift the North Carolina Republican Party from Establishment Republicans and RINOs, moderate/establishment/RINO Republicans like Thom Tillis would not do well in many areas of North Carolina, particularly Downeast.

I reckon I was right.

These are remnants of the same groups when I endeavored to discover who lifted an image that I made, and was copy-righted on BCN, who did not have my permission to do so. I was a like lion in discovering the truth on this issue, and who knows how many regional television station managers I pissed off to discover the truth - a truth that I did discover after a week of efforting.

What I found so odd is that no regional television stations really understood who produced the ad, or who was responsible for it. Follow the link below to get a clearer idea of what I am speaking of.

Thank-you for your contribution.

I have always been a huge Theodore Roosevelt fan, not because he was a Conservative; he wasn't. Theodore was an individual, and he was as tough as a lighter-knot. I mostly admire that he possessed creative intelligence, insight, and courage.

Can you imagine what he would have done already about ISIS? The man loved a good fight, and he always had to win. That is a very American trait.

Understanding that little voice inside your head can come from a variety of places, not least of which demonic, it is essential to be imbued with well regarded principles, especially if one makes a lot of decisions.

I remember the 60's and the 70's, and the conformance to nonconformity.

The radicals in that era were the short-haired Conservatives, and I wasn't one. Oh well, so much for me being an individual back then.
