Outstanding point.

But from my lowly perspective, the McCrory Administration will always be better at "reaching out" than this lowly county commissioner.

I'm in full agreement.

The courts should never be used as bargaining chip for the nebulous whim of unscrupulous petitioners.

Just the story of Tillis's origins as a state legislator should give every true Conservative pause to trust his ambitions as a politician.

Tillis may be the perfect U.S. Senator, but I've found politicians who have dubious beginnings generally have a certain hubris that allows them a false sense of political security.

Senator Dick Durbin, from Illinois, just now, 120913, requested that congressional Republicans "heed the President's call to 'pass Federal unemployment benefits to help working families across America.'"

It seems logical to me that if these are American "working families": Why do they need any unemployment benefits, or any resultant extension?

I suppose my logical mind will never meld with that of the common Democrat, irrespective of their political position.

Commented on Lonesome Dove

Like Wyatt, I love Lonesome Dove too. To that extent, I will recount a few of my favorite scenes. Here below is the first, the full video representation of the scene is on the second page.

I well remember the scene in Ogallala, Nebraska, when the Cowboys had a rare afternoon off the trail, to seek provisions, and some in the comfort of "whores".

After leaving that vestige of ill-repute, Dish Boggett is told by an Army Calvary Scout that he wanted to buy his horse, and takes a beating for saying no.

Newt Dobbs steps in, restrains the equine, and refuses the Scout the horse while taking an awful whipping for his trouble.

Woodrow sees the commotion, from the porch of the General Store, hops on the Hell Bitch, and gallops to save Newt any further abuse. Woodrow dismounts, and in one fluid motion relieves the Scout of his mount, and while the Scout remains a bit dazed, on his back in the dusty street, Woodrow calmly searches the livery for a suitable implement to inflict great damage upon the Army Scout.

Accordingly, and still in near one fluid motion, Woodrow literally whips the old scout with a shoeing iron to the near last of his existence, and then considers that he is bored with the shoeing iron as his weapon of choice, then calmly picks up a more suitable implement to finish the man, while the town folk, including the Scout's fellow horse soldiers stood spellbound by Woodrow's commitment.

It was at this point when Augustus arrives to the rescue and lassos Woodrow, pulls him away from the fray, saving the Scout's life, and Woodrow from certain murder.

After Woodrow settles down from his maddening moment, and notices the horror on the faces on the by-standing town folk, and the Scout's commanding officer, he remounts the "Hell Bitch", turns to the horrified crowd and announces as only Tommy Lee Jones can deliver: "I hate rude behavior in a man ... I won't tolerate it."

As you can tell this is a most memorable scene ... at least for me.

The full video representation of the scene is on the second page.

Search Brant Clifton, or ObamaCare, and one will find a good bit of anger in the words of ole Brant. One could also check out the Daily Haymaker category on the left under Editorials and one will get the same result.

For all of Brant's anger, he absolutely is an equal opportunity 'butt-kicker, with some rather unkind words for the Republicans as well.

It's just that the Democrats, for quite a few decades now, have done far more stupid stuff, so Brant, like the rest us thinking folks, has a hard keeping any balance between chronicling the dumb deeds of the two parties.

Remember the line from "A League of Their Own" when Tom Hanks incredulously argued, "There's no cying in baseball."

Likewise, there's no bullying in football. Incredible!

For all Republicans, who think that it is a better virtue to negotiate, nay, to supplicate themselves to our Liar-in-Chief, Senator Majority Leader Pansy Voice and former Speaker Bright Eyes, think again.

Candidate Obama, and his pathetic minions, only wishes to break you for the distinct pleasure of the low-information class that is his base.

WaKe up America before it is too late.

Harry Reid is a complete unmitigated idiot, with a pure pansy voice ... and Kay Hagan has voted for this mimbo to be Senate majority leader for 5 years now.

What does that say about the junior NC Senator?

The Hood and the Sheriff

Recently over at BCN's Facebook page, I was asked to further explain the proprieties of each party in this incident. This is my succinct explanation, which I believes sums it all up:

The way all of this works in North Carolina is: The sheriff controls the day-to-day operations of the jail, the public pays for the jail. In terms of the public paying for the jail - the county commissioners represents the public wholly.

Commissioner Richardson was obviously concerned that the jail should not be put in the position, once again, where the Beaufort County jail would be shut down for neglect, and the public being forced to pay for that shutdown, which is proven to be a tremendous amount of money.

Thank-you for your kind words on my cognitive abilities toward Limited Voting, but now that Steve Rader is back from Moldova, I would defer to him as the most knowledgeable. He has long held that mantel and deservedly so.

The reason I like the 5 seats over the 7 is: 1) it easily achieves the 20% representation for minorities, and 2) Your right, we, with the right candidates, may well be successful in cutting back on the diversity of thought on this board of commissioners. With the right candidates, we could possibly win a Conservative majority in a head to head Conservative versus Liberal "Battle Royal" in that 2016 election that I propose.

Over the last 17 years that Hood and I have been county commissioners, diversity of thought has given us: a hwy 17 bypass on the wrong side of hwy 17 business, overbuilt schools, many in the wrong locations, "Chickengate" and the "Chickengate" buyout deal, wrong headed economic development policy with an abundance of cronyism, the gift of our mismanaged hospital, under the approving eyes of RINO McRoy, to his crony's friends, and there is so much more.

No, at this point, I'd like to strip a bit of diversity from the Beaufort County Board of Commissioners if at all possible.

When times get really hard, good, smart Republicans can beat Democrats head to head. I got my money, literally, on times getting much harder.

I only know why I don't shoot pictures of poverty, which is simple. I don't gravitate towards that train of thought, that existence within their piece of the American Dream. Poverty of all measures is an appalling human endeavor, because in today's, or soon, yesterday's America, poverty is usually avoidable.

When I shoot pictures, I do it because I'm there, and wish to record the moment for me and others, often in BCN. It's often a happy place.

I think if anyone would really endeavor to shoot pictures of poverty, they should wait a bit, and after the balance of Candidate Obama's administration, I think we will see quite a bit more poverty. The Amateur's extreme poverty of thought will one day translate into extreme structural damage to a once great nation of laws, and of a proud, good People.

Yes, I do appreciate NC Senator Thom Goolsby consenting to allow BCN to publish his passion - the better idea by the spoken word.

There is much in BCN that you will not find in the WDN, and; however, I will strenuously contend that we are no more of a conservative publication than they are a liberal one, probably less, far less.

Unlike the Washington Daily News, we will never attempt to restrict the free flow of ideas, but, instead, will endeavor to encourage that free flow of information from all viewpoints, wherever we can easily find it.

History indicates, liberals don't do much writing of a thoughtful nature, unless they are being paid, and even then ... If they did write something reasonably well constructed, and they sent it to me, I would happily publish it straight-away.

And it would be read. We get much traffic. Far more than the WDN's online edition. It's not even close at this point.

One more thing, since we're talking about severe stupidity: Why did the NC GOP allow this NC AG Boob to go unchallenged in the last election, when they solidly had their greasy fingerprints on other seats that were, obviously, way above their level of comprehension.

The North Carolina Republican Party has been a complete joke for at least the last 10 years, and the people that would give those bimbos money to elect their favorites establishment guys are almost as stupid as those that would blindly vote for a Kay Hagan or a Roy Cooper.

If you truly want to save this Republic, this state: get involved, keep your money, work for smart good principled candidates, and then contribute to people you know, trust.

Working together, we can make a difference.

There are questions to that concern, and short of possessing the iron hand of another Joe Arpaio, the larger question may be the control of the destructive nature of this inmate population.

The county commissioners are endeavoring to find some measure to gain some greater control over the Sheriff's jail. It is the Sheriff's jail, but it is a huge expense for the citizens of Beaufort County.

While I celebrate D.G. Martin's 1st Amendment right to profess comments that are innately stupid, I agree solidly with Brant's question: WHAT does UNC-TV have to offer that you can't find on any of those other private options?
Commented: Wednesday, August 7th, 2013 @ 1:09 am By: Stan Deatherage
I read what D.G. Martin wrote in the Mountaineer comparing the Republicans in North Carolina to all manner of terrible people, ideas; however, I agree with Wyatt that it is his first amendment right to do so, and his gig with WUNC should not be in jeopardy because of his pathetic political opinions.

Of course, should WUNC observe the obvious - that D.G. Martin is not that bright of a guy, as is well evidence in his pathetic attempt at forming an cohesive opinion that was based in some semblance of reality - and wish to relieve the guy of his position for intellectual incompetence, so be it.

The problem is in the OMG, in which WUNC is an ancillary member, there is not a very bench when it comes to intellect.

The whole sales tax conundrum over an income tax is on unproven ground here in North Carolina.

I have two problems with this sales tax endeavor:

1. From my personal perspective, I run a purely services business. Every time we walk into another's business, there is nothing that we can't do for them that is web services oriented, including some innovative services that no one else can currently do ... so am I expected to become a tax collector.

Furthermore, if I don't want to be a tax collector, what's to keep me from bartering some of my services. There is this innovative stuff we can do for folks that cannot be detected by the untrained eye.

Now, what would the tax hounds do, create a new bureaucracy that has bureaucrats that are trained to discover the subtleties of barter.

2. As a long time County Commissioner, I am well versed in this one truth: Don't give politicians yet another way to collect and give away other people's money.
Commented: Saturday, August 3rd, 2013 @ 10:25 am By: Stan Deatherage
Yeah, I know this is a brag piece, but that is what self-promotion and sales is all about, especially when you provide a product that so many people use and so few truly understand.

But to surmise my position here, I will just have to quote Baseball Hall of Fame Pitcher Dizzy Dean, "It ain't bragging if you can do it."

Thanks Charles.

I'm for sticking with the Republican party just a bit longer, and if I leave the GOP it will be because there is something far better that will stand the scrutiny of the truest of patriots.

We are in difficult times, and I fear we are in that period than can best be described as the "calm before the storm." And what a storm it will be.

BCN's number 2 job is to help people get smarter to weather that storm.

BCN's number 1 job is to present how we perform in cyber space.

These are tough times, and I'm afraid they will be getting tougher.

There are two roads: One is the path to fiscal solvency, the other is the path of Obama and everyone that really gets him.

I'm betting on fiscal solvency because it is the only path to preserve the Republic. I never did "get" Obama, and I'm having trouble with those that still "get him" after all that has happened and is about to happen before we are rid of him.

I'm still not sold on the fact that the Republicans can not be put to right.

But then again, I have always been an optimist.

As the first Republican, ever re-elected to the Beaufort County Commission, and one of the first Republicans ever elected here Downeast since Reconstruction, I have served with many pretend Republicans, who are more managed by thier own hubris rather than any set of principles.

Maybe through education, we can teach others what real Republicans look like and how real Republicans are guided by principle.

It is one of the reasons I, and my team, developed the infrastructure for BCN.

Thanks Charles for the correction, and thanks for corroborating, through Velma, what I had heard and what I actually suspected.

You know, I've been doing this a long time, and when lies and ambivalence is the basis of one's interaction with the perfect of what is "grassroots", one tends to know the true narrative well long before it is presented.
Commented: Wednesday, July 24th, 2013 @ 8:40 am By: Stan Deatherage
You know, I might have felt a slight bit different about this whole corrupt behavior thing if the Chairman had contacted me to attempt to assuage my expressed concerns.

But alas, we obviously are the poorer Republican relations from Downeast, where the grassroots concerns of those of us that built the base for Republicans in northeastern North Carolina just don't make the grade to matter.

Even though, I have spoken well of liars, this is no lie: Candidate Barrack Obama is right now as I put the finishing touches of this post, at 1:35 pm on Friday, July 19, 2013, actually talking about Trayvon - doing the "son" thing again - specifically identifying with the "African-American" collective conscience.

You cannot make this stuff up.

Speaking of impeaching fools: When will Candidate Obama be impeached?
Commented: Friday, July 19th, 2013 @ 1:40 pm By: Stan Deatherage
It's easy to "Monday morning quarterback" at this point, but, I still contend that Trayvon should have disarmed the doughy Hispanic man with a Jewish sir-name before he administered that "down on the ground beat down" on Zimmerman.

Just think, Trayvon would still be alive today if he had only disarmed Zimmerman first.
