I should have TIVO's the speech, I am sure it was a Faux Moment.

I did not see Willie's speech last night but the replays this morning show the highlights, I was in the kitchen when they replayed this part
"AND SHE IS STILL THE BEST DARN ---.'GARBLED" ---- I HAVE EVER KNOWN!"

I did not catch the lost phrase, but I have a good idea what it was not.

Where are the Centrist or just slightly left of center Democrats when they need them. You know, the one's that say "WE CAN ALWAYS AGREE TO DISAGREE on anything!!!" Oh, I forgot there aren't any left, there never were any, or they have left the building.

I have not been watching the DNC, preferring to catch the Ted's notes summary. Thanks TMC.

To paraphrase Paul Anka:

And now, the end is near
And so I face the final curtain
My friend, I'll say it clear
I'll state my case, of which I'm certain
I wrote emails so full of bull
Then I deleted them the right way
And more, much more than this, I did it my way

Call me dense if you will, but it just dawned on me why the Liberals always think the world is against them and all people are racist, crooks out to take advantage of the poor and the downtrodden people. The recent revelation that "Debbie" Wasserman Schultz and the DNC has been conspiring to keep Bernie Sanders from being selected as the Democratic candidate finally indicated the problem with liberals.

Liberals are surrounded by a bunch of crooked Alinski-ites that do rig the system to accomplish their goals. If you are part of a corrupt system, it is easy to extend that to the rest of the world. Lewis Grizzard, a great American, said "If you ain't the lead dog, the scenery never changes." My own take on the situation is that liberals have a right to be paranoid; their system is rigged.

Another email scandal shows that Democrats cannot be trusted with a keyboard. I think they should begin a grass roots effort to pass common sense legislation to ban keyboards in the hands of unqualified people. Perhaps they should pass a background check before they can purchase or use a keyboard that is attached to anything via chord or wireless. It is also interesting that the only time the Democrats say they are transparent is when they get caught. I never thought transparency could be used as a defense.

I'll move along now, I have a Walk-about in progress.

Stan,

Fortunately, many of the 1969-1975 pictures have been lost to propriety or were never taken. My particular favorite ones were the 125 color slides of the Byron Pop Festival in Georgia August 1969. They made it through until about 2012 when I trashed them in a fit of organizational exuberance. I do have a collage of the 'Gang Pictures' made for a recent birthday party that is somewhat tame but illustrative of the fun we had. I will have to consider offering them here along with a story which is already penned but would require some editing.

That picture has been around for forty years as a joke from the wives to me and my two high school buddies. We did not always have enough to buy the good stuff. After scanning most of the family albums, the girls remarked "did you notice that every picture of you guys has some alcohol involved"? so true. There is a story about that but I am not allowed to publish it.

Up until the last few years it was true, but 2/3 (both of us here) of us have quit the drinking. The other guy is a slow learner. Life has been very very good to us.

I think I am veering off the reservation here but:

The sharks are in the water in a feeding frenzy and the chum is being splattered all over James Comey while Hillary swims away to relative safety. Only the Republicans could screw this up by continuing to be diverted to a sidebar issue like how reasonable people may be totally wrong. If Comey had recommended prosecution, does anyone think that it would be vigorously pursued by the current DOJ before the election? We have never had a DOJ that is not tainted by politics. Let's just trust the voters to make a decision, informed or uninformed, that is our system, as flawed as it may seem.

I suspect that Director Comey has placed the choice in our hands in November. Article in the queue for consideration. Once again we may be on the same page and it should scare one of us but I am not sure which one.

Thanks for a very thought provoking perspective on this nationwide dilemma. If this article were posted under my Post Icon and name, I am sure it would be branded as a racist article. However, I am afraid that under your Post Icon and Name they would brand you and the article as just another Uncle Tom.

Now they have to make a choice. My comment is racist and / or your article is Uncle Tom.

Your final line is the classic put down of the fuzzy logic of the left.
"Was that a racist or phobic statement? According to the minority, only the minority can decide that. See the problem?"

I have often wondered if there is a rearview study that indicates the economic impact of development incentives vs economic growth. Normally the tax credits are sold based on the employment gains and resulting tax collections. I know that most companies do make this analysis before and after based on their expenses but I have never seen a third party analysis on the trade off and benefits.

I never trusted the benefit analysis of any government program since there is a built in fallacy with the "manna from heaven" mentality vs hard currency accounting.

It is possible that many will misinterpret my remarks in this post. I was trying to cover an obvious parallel but some private communications indicate I may have been too opaque in the underlying reference. They are not a condemnation of the utopian wishes expressed in Imagine or the plea for help in We are the World. On the contrary, they are an example of why we need dreamers to soften the realities of the real world. We are the World raised around $69 Million dollars for African relief and Imagine made a fortune for Lennon and Yoko.

In an open letter to Paul McCartney published in Melody Maker, Lennon said that "Imagine" was "'Working Class Hero' with sugar on it for conservatives like yourself"(wiki). He may have understood his utopia was not to exist on this earth but was trying to point the way. It is ironic that John Lennon left England as a protest against the high taxation and moved to the United States where the tax treatment was more favorable. Proof positive that he was more than just a dreamer.

After the dust settles, there is still famine and boundary disputes as illustrated by the vote in Britain to leave the European Union. The reference to Cornwallis (please excuse mis-spelling in post. spellcheck again) and Yorktown is a reminder that the most successful society yet created on earth was based on individuals doing what is in their best interest with a high regard for others being able to do the same thing. It also was a dream not yet realized.

It is good to see the entrepreneurial spirit is still alive in our immigrant community. The lesson here is that two people who needed a translator were able to defraud the IRS of millions of dollars using the complicated schemes of SIRF & IDT. All the while, the Post Office and Bank did NOT notice anything unusual about multiple refund checks from IRS sent to a PO Box and millions of dollars deposited into a single bank account. Just to think I was paranoid about asking for $1000 cash in new $100 bills for Christmas presents in 2015, this gives me some solace. So much for the "if you see something , say something" method of catching crooks. I hope someone is also checking for food stamp fraud at this location.

I wonder if that cop in Arkansas was an Xenophobic bigot overstepping his authority? Was his name Bubba?

One can only hope that your peers will age into the maturity that you have already developed. You are already on solid ground with a principled foundation for your beliefs. Regardless of anyone's philosophy, if it is based on an evaluation of fundamentals it beats the blind allegiance to buzz words, slogans and emotional pacifiers used by the shallow souls among our population. There is always room for empathy for other opinions as long as it is a two way street.

I could not help but notice how the liberals are always talking about the community.
The LGBT community
The Latino community
The Black community
The Muslim community
It hearkens back to those heady days of Democratic segregation into separate but somewhat unequal communities. Somewhere I thought that the goal was to integrate all into the American community; Except at election time.

Not a week passes that my brother, who is 76 and still active and maintains contact with many of his old Phillips 66 workmates, hears of someone passing or going into a rest home. You are right on track with prevention of atrophy of the body and it is of considerable necessity to keep from getting atrophy of the mind. I think the hardest part is the prevention of atrophy of attitude that creeps in with the loss of goals and plans.

Of course, it is presumptuous for me as a mere 70 year old to offer advice on how to grow old. My old man made it until 99 and was active mentally and physically up until 6 months before passing. He just came to the breakfast table one day and said "Boys I'm done". He never got out of bed again and died peacefully a couple of months later. It was no surprise to Jim or me. He lived life and death on his own terms and was at peace with himself and the lord.

That is funny.

Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on your point of view, I am in the twilight of a mediocre life . Too old to act like I feel and too young to give creditable advice. The only option left is to try to keep from being pigeonholed into either category. I use humor to address the quandary.

A guy at the clubhouse this morning ask me what phase of life we were in and I told him we were moving from the "stick-shift" phase to the "shift-stiff" phase. That is the point in life when you would like to shift the stiff back, fingers and knees to some other part of the body that no longer has that problem.

Kathy, it may not be too far from the truth. I have often thought that Trump is in it just for the attention and it took hold. I doubt he has a overwhelming passion to be president like Hillary does, but once he got the ball rolling he went with the flow in true TRUMP style.

Years ago Readers Digest use to have an ongoing series about my most Unforgettable Character. It always featured someone who was memorable. One of the gimmicks used in sales was the shtick, derived from the Borscht Belt comedians of the Catskill Mountains. Have something that was memorable to differentiate you from the crowd. I never had a goatee until the last two or three years of my working career because we were such a buttoned down engineering company. Nevertheless, I used the shtick at various times to hopefully get a leg up. In industrial sales, there is not a lot of pressure or gimmicks used, but my shtick was usually my sense of humor or my quirky personality. Since most sales engineers are as dry as a popcorn-fart, it was not hard to differentiate myself from the crowd.

Like the old saying goes, "If you can't dazzle them with your brilliance, baffle them with your Bull$hit". I am and was pretty good at that.

There may be reason for hope. Regardless of how the media characterizes the firing of Corey Lewandowski, it proves one thing to me. The Donald is not afraid to make a decision and make changes if he perceives that something is not working.

I think it would be refreshing if someone in government was actually fired for lack of results.

The movie Ghost Busters starts with Professors Venkman, Stantz, and Spengler get fired from their university jobs. In horror, Stantz (Dan Akroyd) says to Venkman (Bill Murray):

"I’ve worked in the private sector. They expect results".

I am 100% if favor of building more prisons in every county in the United States where we can incarcerate all those illegal, undocumented criminal guns. Nowhere in the constitution is there a reference to a gun having any rights. We would not have court trials because guns have no rights. Think of the money saved if we could just pronounce all guns as criminal and arrest them. Naturally, this would require that all guns turn themselves in because we do not have the manpower needed to find them all. New laws outlawing Gun Amnesty Cities would solve the problem of sanctuaries for those foreign guns that creep across our borders. We all know that many guns concealed themselves because they afraid of being profiled.

Based on the success we have had with the war on poverty, illegal drugs, welfare cheats, food stamp abuse, and illegal immigration, I think that would be a good solution. The only ban that I can think of that has worked is the prayer in school ban, but all that did was drive the prayers underground.

Of course, one of the only gun free zones left would be every local cemetery, but I doubt the terrorist would bother to attack there.

I normally don't like Memes because they are usually non-factual pejorative statements attached to a picture to make an point or elicit an emotional response devoid of thought or accuracy.

If you have applied for a concealed carry licenses or purchased a gun at a gun store and undergone a background check, you are already on a watch list at the FBI. They may not be actively following you but you are on the radar. If you have purchased more that one gun in the last six months and submitted to a NICS background check, you are flagged as a potential problem. The NICS database includes people with similar names. Ted Kennedy was on the no-fly list. Do not ever underestimate how our government will use information at it's disposal to pursue or harass perfectly innocent people.

With that disclaimer in place I reluctantly offer this meme which I think is based on factual context.

Thanks for a great post John.

Here is Lester and one of his dishwashers doing their act in 1977. Lester was a showman and never passed a chance to make a buck. His dishwasher at his restaurant was Bobby Lee Sears. When Lester was Lt Governor of Georgia he help Bobby get an transfer from prison. They played this act in Underground Atlanta where Lester sold Pick Handles.

He was a character even if he was somewhat of an embarrassment to many.

Yep, Lester was the Governor of Georgia and a full blown show boater. He was a nice enough guy in person but his beliefs were cemented in his generation. An unbiased view of his tenure as governor (1967-1971) show him to be honest and even handed but he was a believer in States Rights deep in his core. He and Diane could have had some great discussions as he approached it from the race viewpoint but never trusted the federal government.

Notice the Rotary phone, two ashtrays, three-tier In-N-Out pending basket, scotch tape, stapler and the ever present 3 x 5 box which I still have and use. That is a bookcase full of engineering manuals out the wazoo. The Microfiche & reader is in the conference room.

From this six-floor office, I could see Tampa Bay. In addition, we had two beautiful secretaries.

The bottom picture in the article is circa 2000 Saturday doing reports, when I worked out of the home in Atlanta. This was Dad's house as mom passed in 1999 and he refused to move in with us so I had two home offices. Only the engineering manuals now are on a zip drive. From this window, I could see the barn and outhouse in Dad's back yard.

Bean counters don't you just love 'em?

Boy how I miss the excitement of that job.
