Commented on A Question of Title

So Commissioner Deatherage, you are saying you wont use your considerable knowledge in Real Estate and Govt, to search through public data bases on behalf of finding answers for the public... you indicate you will only wait until each Commissioner's meeting to ask the "center-left coalition" for answers that you know you'll never get.

How about you, Commissioner Richardson, can you find answers for the public regarding this 4-9 acre boondoggle? Title search? Tax value?
Chain of ownership? Isnt it a matter of Public Records?
Thank you in advance.

Are all of you aware of the purposed changes to 15th street from Carolina Ave to the Hospital area?
I wonder how that will affect traffic at the new school?
Which came first, the new school or this new road construction?

Stan, I am asking you as my County Commissioner and not you as a journalist... What is the Tax value of that 9.5 ac piece of land, from which the 4 ac has been cut from...as shown on the Tax Dept's website here locally. Do this before it is overwritten.

2ndly, how did the 9.5 ac deed go from the hands of the Washington City Schools to the Redevelopment Commission of Washington...and then how did it go from them, to the city of Washington??? AND why does the website showing the History of Ownership show that the City didnt acquire this land until July 2024?
Thank you.

You are naive and due to be hurt if you trust any lawyer even your own.
Its the same as trusting a politician.

By the way, many politicians were lawyers... especially among the Dems.

"What we have here is... a failure to communicate." (Cool Hand Luke warden)
Stan makes a motion to have said title search prevented to the commission... to satisfy the curiosity of the citizens about the $500,000 boondoggle, but 2 dems and their 2 Republican rubberstampers vote nay.

What we have here is HDS & SDS. Whatever Hood and Stan is for...they are against.

Its just like TDS nationwide. Those Dems think their job is to resist Trump REGARDLESS of the people's vote to support him. They have forgotten, or perhaps never believed that their job is to serve the public's well-being. Keeping us in the dark is NOT serving our well-being.

These Commissioners who seem to be suffering from an unreasonable emotional bias, need to be voted out as soon as possible. The ROT is everywhere locally. We hear that the Beaufort County/Washington Voters get what they deserve...? Pray for us.

Hey Stan,
Wikipedia has a City of Washington webpage.
It list local media, but not NOW. You should go to an edit and mention NOW...and perhaps some other info of interest.
en.wikipedia.org

Regarding you calls for a Title search of the said 4 acres valued at $500,000... Why dont you and your Realtor peers do a private title search for the public's benefit. I know it wouldnt be "official" but some knowledge is better than no knowledge. Certainly, a realtor has the know-how to get that done. Thanks in advance.

If u were to ask me, I'd say that all those elected officials who show no curiosity or, ask deep questions about what they are about to vote for, are just "useful idiots," acting as ignorant rubber stampers, because they are just too lazy or too stupid to care about how their vote affects the citizens they are supposed to defend.

Everyone with eyes knows who they are. judge them accordingly.

Dear "Big 'white-people' Bob."
While I try to not judge people by category...
I thoroughly understand your perspective because I hate black supremacist. There are many bad people in the world that need to be checked.

My distrust of you comes from the fact that I'm not sure of your personal definition of "supremacist." I think it is rooted in bigotry.

Hey, Fellow Taxpayers. Its not a 4 ac parcel, it is a 9.5 ac parcel, that someone in a backroom decided, prior to the Commissioner's special meeting, that the City Govt (rip-off artist) would break off 4 acres, to sell to the county at the price gouging price of $500,000. (REID #49665) According to the Ownership History webpage, the city acquired July15,2024.

If I could make bets on knowing how they will vote, I would become a millionaire.

This is odd.
AT the last special meeting of the Commissioners, it was stated that the the schools system didnt realize that they didnt own that land back on July 2024. Strange, that this is the date that appears on the "history of ownership" webpage showing that the City had become the "new owners"... on that date. What's up with that?

On a personal note. If I were abt to agree to a $500,000 contract, I would tell the other party that I need to sleep on it. AND, I'll bet u that if that $500,000 was coming out of the 4 Commissioners pocket, they'd say the same.

Easy come, easy go, when its other people's money.
Time to follow the money!
Whose getting rich in these deals? Who is "working" the system?

According to the online Real Property Data webpage, History of Ownership, the first owner was WASHINGTON CITY SCHOOL ADM UNIT, they owned this land from Jan. 01,1753 to July 15,2024, when the land was transferred to City of WAshington. That's according to this webpage. How can this be?

But also if one goes to Book 630 page 53 where this same "ownership history" webpage claims we can find the deed, it shows a deed dated August 15, 1968 between The Redevelopment Commission of Washington and sold to the City of WAshington,NC. It is wrong date and wrong seller.

Did the Registrar of deeds lose a deed? Did Registrar also type in the wrong date?? Is anything else missing?

Where is the July 15,2024 deed describing the transfer? It doesnt appear to show in the online index of deeds. Even more important, if the school system needed th land, why would it give it to th city?

I think the State Auditor should be notified.

Can Beaufort Citizens do a Recall election and fire these Commissioners who voted so carelessly to waste our tax dollars?
With little to No deep thought at all they rushed to a vote? Why?

Must we go all the way to Durham to find an attorney capable of suing the County and City Govt?

Is it possible for the local people to create a DOGE Dept to protect our tax dollars from the big spending local govt?

Did you know the parcel is NOT 4 acres. Its abt 9.5 acres. Does the land has more value as a whole 9.5 acres than it does of just 4. WHO is doing the survey to divide the parcel? Who decides where to divide it?

Did anyone seek to verify with the City that $500,000 was their final price? Maybe $500,000 was for the whole 9 acres.

According to the online Real Property data webpage, WASHINGTON CITY SCHOOL ADM UNIT owned this land prior to July 15,2024, when the land was transferred to City of WAshington.

Why is there No deed available to be viewed??

Well Bubba we still dont know what is the tax value of the 4 acres, as listed on the County's Tax Dept's webpage for tax records.

Can someone with the County Govt, such as Hood, or Stan, or Tandy... or any of the rest of them for that matter, just post here the parcel number for the 4 acres that is about to be sold by the City for $500,000 per the demand of the City manager... so that I can look it up myself???? Inquiring minds want to know... NEED to know!!
Surely if you (the Govt) are buying it, you ought to know the deed description of what you are buying.

Like I said, if the Commissioners were paying out of their own pocket, they would have taken MORE TIME, and asked a whole lot more questions about the documented tax value as determined by the Tax office itself.

Its horrific that th City Council chose to accept th City Manager's price gouging RIP OFF of local taxpayers. This is how Govts lose th trust of voters! Its a display of Greed & corruption in their souls.

A staffer told: "It means whatever th City says it means."

A true conservative can never give this kind of corruption a pass. WHY? Because it becomes like a cancerous rot on humanity that silently spreads to the community, th police dept, the fire dept, all the lower depts & th lawyers that represent them.
I once had a Choco fire dept employee tell me: "Well sometimes we have to 'work' the system." Bingo! This means that to show favor to one groups means we have to take rights from a less powerful group. That's corruption. Sadly its how we end up with RINO's.They are blind to the creeping cancer. They go along to get along. Never accept any form of double standards or u will b slipping into th world of RINO's.

Can someone please tell me what's th listed TAX VALUE of those 4 ac?

Senators Jacob Howards explanation of 14th amendment;

During the debates in the Senate on May 30, 1866, Howard explained the Citizenship Clause:

"This amendment which I have offered is simply declaratory of what I regard as the law of the land already, that every person born within the limits of the United States, and subject to their jurisdiction, is by virtue of natural law and national law a citizen of the United States. This will not, of course, include persons born in the United States who are foreigners, aliens, who belong to the families of ambassadors or foreign ministers accredited to the Government of the United States, but will include every other class of persons."

I might have to watch that video again, but it looks to me like it was the City Manager who pulled that $500,000 price tag out of his ass.

You can bet If that Money was coming out of the pockets of the 4 Commissioner's own pockets, they would have taken a lot longer to consider other options.
Easy come ... easy go...by the spendthrifts of the County Govt.

What we have here is 4 county commissioners who dont have two brain cells to rub together. They checked out long ago to just be rubber stamps for the status quo. IS there a way to check to see who is getting RICH during their time in local Govt, both City & County?

Things might be a lot different if each official had to explain the REASON for their vote.

STOP being frivolous with our tax money! Show me some true OVERSIGHT!

What good does it do to have zoning laws if a city selectively chooses to enforce, or not enforce? I have heard Washington City council members say they believe a landowner ought to be able to do whatever he wants on his own land. No one objected at that city meeting. This was back about a year ago when it showed me that the favored classes get favors at the expense of the neighbors. The City will twist and turn like a worm in a rotting carcass to get it done. If one objects the City will get revenge on you. The City manager sez "what's it to you? Why do you care what they do over there?" Because... toes are being stepped on, that's why. One wins favors, and one loses their rights as citizens. No one talks about it on NOW, because they fear local govt more than they Fear the Federal Govt. Soooo lets keep talking about Newsome's Calif fires.

Well BB, I wish someone, anyone, would "beat that horse like a rented mule" on my behalf. Everyone is afraid to challenge the city because they figure they may need a favor some day...and that includes the lawyers. Silence makes all complicit. One council member has said to a citizen: "If u dont like the way we run the govt then hire a lawyer."
Note... no attempt to do right by a citizen in need. Why? Because they are all rubber stamps for the City Manager who does their thinking for them.
Commented: Tuesday, January 14th, 2025 @ 11:52 am By: Washingtonian
BB, zoning laws are important, but what is a citizen to do when a city refuses to enforce them, when they are dead set on doing a favor for the favored? The rest of us be damned. Washington,NC is corrupt as hell, and no one here wants to talk about it.

I think its a truism.
When words are spoken, everyone hears what is said a bit differently. Some hear it a LOT differently. At the Jan 6 Commissioners meeting, I heard Hood plead for just a bit of oversight regarding $$ the school system spent on parts of th curriculum.
As good stewards of th taxpayers $$ it seemed fair to Hood that the commissioners know some facts regarding some of the local curriculum that WeThePpl had paid for. Mind u, he was Not asking to take control of how the schools are spending that $$, just bit of oversight... just a bit of dutiful service for the citizens so that we could all be informed. (He had the same concerns about the Sheriff's Dept.)

Then I heard 4 of the Commissioners take a position as if they were Sgt Shultz: "I know nothing," & I'm happy w knowing NOTHING. They had stuck their head in the sand & showed no desire to be good stewards of the taxpayers $$ with which they had been entrusted. A complete abrogation of duty. So disappointing.

Well Bob, your generalizations abt white-ppl does not hurt me because I am an individual. I fully know we are not all the same. I saw them measuring a bridge, high, low, length, width, w pictures of surrounding neighborhood, even getting in a boat to evaluate the creek. I wonder if they had a report on Western NC before the hurricane?
I wonder if the county commissioners were shown the report for Beaufort County?
I for one, would like to know what's in the report.
