I'm glad you brought up not discussing politics in a religious setting. I think we all know that the Right Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., did not live by that dictum. Neither does "Reverend" Warnocke of Georgia. I believe it's safe to say that many churches don't live according to the "wall of separation" Jefferson wrote of in a private letter. He did not put it in the Declaration of Independence nor is it in the Constitution.

The Founding Fathers made no allowance for the founding of a Church of State. Neither the Anglicans of England nor the Covenanters of Jonathon Edwards would be the official religion of the new nation. They were shunning the wars Catholics and Protestants fought in Europe. We had a similar dispute here in the colony of North Carolina, only that was between Quakers and Anglicans. If we don't talk about political matters where our people assemble, then we surrender the field of battle. Speaking of politics in church does not violate the Constitution.
