REFRAIN FROM UTILIZING POWERS OF OFFICE IN REPUBLICAN PRIMARY Each Officer and each Member of the State Executive Committee shall refrain from utilizing the powers and dignity of his or her office or position in any Republican Primary for public office at any level. __ Republican National Committee: The Rules of the Republican Party As Adopted by the 2008 Republican National Convention September 1, 2008 *Amended by the Republican National Committee on August 6, 2010. RULE NO. 11 Candidate Support (a) The Republican National Committee shall not, without the prior written and filed approval of all members of the Republican National Committee from 14 of 41 the state involved, contribute money or in-kind aid to any candidate for any public or party office except the nominee of the Republican Party or a candidate who is unopposed in the Republican primary after the filing deadline for that office. In those states where state law establishes a nonpartisan primary in which Republican candidates could participate, but in which the general election may not include a Republican candidate, the candidate endorsed by a convention held under the authority of the state Republican Party shall be recognized by the Republican National Committee as the Republican nominee. (b) No state Republican Party rule or state law shall be observed that allows persons who have participated or are participating in the selection of any nominee of a party other than the Republican Party, including, but not limited to, through the use of a multiparty primary or similar type ballot, to participate in the selection of a nominee of the Republican Party for that general election. No person nominated in violation of this rule shall be recognized by the Republican National Committee as the nominee of the Republican Party from that state. __ |

In this picture Dan Gerlach is fourth from right who was Gov Easley's Finance Director and was then appointed President of the Golden Leaf Foundation. Golden Leaf funds came from the NC Tobacco Settlement which “shall promote the social welfare and lessen the burdens of government [by using its funds] to provide economic impact assistance to economically affected or tobacco-dependent regions of North Carolina in accordance with the Consent Decree [between the state of North Carolina and cigarette manufacturers].”
Guess what? NOT It's simply a political slush fund and another vote buying tool. Don Carrington of the Carolina Journal has several reports available. The latest: www.carolinajournal.com. Wonder if fmr Rep Arthur Williams is aware of that? |

Who would have ever thought you'd be a candidate decoy for not only State Auditor but for Secretary of State too? Who, would have ever thought you would betray and cheat on us? Have you become so in need of what they can give -- so desperately in need? From henceforth please consider yourself a newly made and not so honorable member of the Rancid Republican Ranks. Please say hello to Wayne King, Shu, Stew and Rosser for us. Heck, maybe Bill Tarpening and Ashley Woolard will let you join them in supporting Arthur Williams and further corrupting what was once the party of principle and Laissez Fair representation. But then maybe that deal is already done. |

Thank you, Mr. Deatherage, for you and BCN for providing this forum. Despite my previous posted comment a few hours ago, though, which has facts you cannot refute, your lead article about the September 17 debate in Morehead City (as of the time of this comment) still alleges Mr. Goodwin will try to "defend his record" of "scheduling" "exorbitant rates" for Downeast counties. I respectfully suggest that your promotion of that upcoming debate between Causey and Goodwin NOT rely upon a false premise. Goodwin rejected the rate increases; he has NOT raised homeowners insurance rates during his term. Perhaps the article could be amended/updated to say incumbent Goodwin and challenger Causey will discuss the serious problem of higher homeowners' insurance rates in coastal North Carolina. Just a suggestion, and one that keeps the issue rightly on your mind intact while removing the erroneous part. FWIW.

Dear Sir: As a journalist it is important to print facts and not state baseless claims. Mr. Goodwin's PREDECESSOR, Jim Long, is the one who raised homeowners' insurance rates by approving an increase in the base rate in 2008. North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin has NOT raised the base homeowners' insurance rates in eastern North Carolina. In fact, Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin rejected the recent 2011 attempt by insurance companies to raise the base rate. (If anyone's rates have changed over the last few years it is because certain insurance companies have voluntarily chosen to reduce some discounts for homeowners, etc., and the legislature made some amendments to the Beach Plan laws, things that Mr. Goodwin has no control over.) It is the disinformation and/or errors that you and others have stated that has confused the public as to whom the real defender of coastal homeowners is. Mr. Causey has worked 30 years for various insurance companies and worked as a legislative lobbyist. Mr. Goodwin is being sued by the insurance companies BECAUSE Mr. Goodwin rejected the rate increases that the insurance companies sought against the coast and eastern North Carolina. Mr. Goodwin also has worked closely with members of NC-20 to obtain changes in certain processes regarding ratemaking. Where has Mr. Causey been over the last four years? He only pops up in certain election years -- namely, 1992, 1996, 2000 and now in 2012. Just because Mr. Causey announced his campaign in Dare County doesn't make him your best friend. And just because he pops up in election years doesn't make him the best person to represent coastal North Carolina as state insurance commissioner. I encourage you to check Mr. Goodwin's actual record. In the insurance commissioner's race, it is Wayne Goodwin who has a proven record of fighting against the insurance companies, including ordering insurance companies to send back $1.3 billion back to people and businesses,and ordered insurance companies to return $16 million to the Beach Plan surplus. I hope to attend the Morehead City debate and hear Mr. Causey's arguments melt when exposed to the heat of the truth. And, most respectfully, I hope you will not make baseless assertions against an elected official such as Mr. Goodwin without verifying the facts. I bet the debate is going to be very enlightening.

To be clear and precise, a motion was made and approved unanimously to allocate $400 for a GOP Headquarters monthly plus utilities. The initial site was in disrepair and posed safety concerns. However, our great team discovered an alternative location in downtown Washington for less which includes utilities. What's not to celebrate? Isn't this the epitome of conservative values in action? For those who prefer, the stairs are always an option, and we'll ensure the entry is accessible to all. Instead of continuing to attack the hard work of valued volunteers/conservatives, try being positive and show some appreciation.
